Importance of SEO
Ok, I need some help on this.
How could I convince someone about the importance of SEO? I think you'd all say that this is common sense. But consider that this person doesn't have any common knowledge about Internet or search engines. He just needs to see some reports about the issue. Like, (i.e. in Google) how many people make how many searchs in a day? What's the traffic provided to the first page results and last page results by search engines? And things like that...
Do you know any reports of this kind?

Do some research, there are lots of articles about traffic percentages, as well as tools that can give you a rough estimate of expected searches or traffic per day per keyword on a given search engine.

You can also look up Google adwords for the keyword and say: people are spending x USD for a single click when this keyword is searched and there are y clicks a day. They should know why they are paying so much money...

FindWhat reports 33million searches per day, I wonder how accurate that is.

Cyberken's Suggestion
Tell him"
"He who has a thing to sell and goes and whispers in a well is not as apt to get the dollars as he who climbs a tree and hollers."
Tell him SEO is like "Climbing a tree and hollering"

most traffic estimates are not going to be real accurate for one reason or another. a good way to test is to set up an adwords campaign, but of course this can be expensive for some terms.

I think it would sound better:
He who has a thing to sell and goes and whispers in a well is not as apt to get the dollars as he who climbs a tree and hollers look at me!
I'm prone to liking corny rhymes.

Hey Aaron, how would you say the importance is for affiliates in industries such as online gambling where the SEO restrictions are so heavy?

Look this:
http://www.clickz.com/showPage.html?page=3469361
"A study by Oneupweb finds a site entering Google's top natural SERP for the first time can expect an exponential increase in traffic and double the number of conversions. The study analyzed Web sites entering Google's first, second, or third SERP for the first time in 2004. Of the 114 search terms tracked using the company's ROI Trax analytics tool, 56 were three-word terms; 50 were two words; 7 were four-word terms; and one a single-word term."
Eyetracking Google Search Results

He wants report or rather proof that SEO is important?
Why don't you let him see the site you are working with.
Explain him what are the advantages that SEO done.
That's what I think

Jim, you could also say, "let's do nothing and watch the dollars roll in". Then cut to tumbleweeds blowing past the house...
or.. Build 2 sites one thats been SEO'd and the other nothing...maybe he needs more tangible prrof than reports...?

Tell him that creating a website can help him earn money from search engines by doing SEO. For me, SEO is the best way to get higher traffic, and of course, generate more revenue.
