Do Follow links are counted as back links by Search Engines and No Follow links are not counted. However you use them is going to affect your page rank. You can see them on your html code. There's a few examples that people have shared with you above. This is something that you definitely need to implement to your site if you haven't.

You can see the source code of a page to identify no follow tag. Or you can use some browser plugin to see no follows tags being highlighted.

No follow link may look like this:

<a rel="nofollow" href=""></a>

And do follow can be like this:

<a href=""></a>

nofollow is commonly used by seo to they websites or blog to avoid spamming and transferring pr juice to other website, most of them created a link to other sites to promote and increase popularity of their own site but using nofollow the links they created are useless.

IMO, nofollow links are still indexed and followed by search engines. Putting "nofollow" value on links only means that you don't trust these links and you're not giving high importance on them.

Same with Google, they also index and follow "nofollow links". Though these links don't have page rank value or don't pass PR juice to other page.
Journey, thanks for the great info!

Google doesn't counts no follow links as backlinks. On the other hand yahoo counts it.
You can go to the source code of the and check in that.

@redrose: there is a add-on for firefox that will highlight nofollow links on each page you visit. Search for Seo4Firefox and you will find it quickly.

"The term Dofollow has no meaning without knowing the term Nofollow.
Dofollow actually arrived from the word Html attribute for anchor tag ""nofollow"".

It indicates to the search engine that the hyperlink should not affect the rankings of the target page.

The one which is opposite to this is dofollow. It affects backlinks and pagerank."

A link that is not nofollowed is known as dofollow link. A Dofollow link is a link crawlable by search engine. Dofollow is not a tag, its an attribute you simply don’t nofollow a link if you want it be dofollowed.
A nofollow link on other other hand is one that will not be followed by a search engine robot/spider. This is accomplished by placing the rel=”nofollow” attribute in an anchor tag. This can be useful when you are optimizing a website and do not want to give the destination website credit for the backlink.

Quote:
How do i identify them?
You can download this http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/seo-for-firefox.html its highlights nofollow links in red.

Quote:
How are they used?
Nofollow links may be used in following cases:
* Untrusted content: If you don’t want to vouch for the content of pages you link to from your site you can nofollow those links. This can discourage spammers from targeting your site, and will help keep your site from inadvertently passing PageRank to bad neighborhoods on the web. In particular, comment spammers may decide not to target a specific content management system or blog service if they can see that untrusted links in that service are nofollowed. Though this does not stop some spammers as they are out there not for backlinks purpose but also traffic.

* Crawl prioritization: Search engine robots can’t sign in or register as a member on your forum, so there’s no reason to invite Googlebot to follow “register here” or “sign in” links. Using nofollow on these links enables Googlebot to crawl other pages you’d prefer to see in Google’s index.

* Paid links: Paid links that are not nofollowed can influence search rankings,a site’s ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to it. In order to prevent paid links from influencing search results and negatively impacting users, webmasters are encouraged use nofollow on such links. Webmasters buying such links coming from sites delivering traffic wouldn’t mind the extra attribute being added to their links.

NOTE: Whether a link is followed or nofollow its still good for human visitors to your website which can turn to a client.

Juice and no juice is all just speculations. No follow is designed not to give a banklink. Some no follow links will show up as strong juice bearing backlinks.

"do follow" is a made up term

the nofollow attribute is added to links that you don't want google to follow

simple as that

do follow and no follow are very important tags, as per seo point of view.
if you don't define any tag, that link will be counted as do follow
to define no follow just add rel="nofollow"
ex. <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.v7n.com/">

add nofollow during internal linking for those pages of site, which are not important for u.
