Which is the most efficient ways to generate web site traffic?
Forums, press releases, social Media, social network, blogging or video marketing. Share your views and ideas.

I'd say search engine ranking is the best. For targeted traffic, noting beats a Search Engine.

It's not really a question of which one is best alone more than likely your website will fail. When marketing a website you should be using as many forms of marketing as possible to see a gain in the serps. Now if your talking about which form of marketing provides the best referral traffic I would say it is a toss up between article marketing, blogging and social marketing.

The proper mix of promotional techniques really depends upon what niche you're in.
- Social networking works well for entertainment sites, but isn't great for selling commodity products.
- Press releases are great for non-profits, but probably aren't going to do wonders for a MySpace resource site.
- Forums are great for things people love to talk about, but probably not so good for products like deodorant.
What niche are you in?

For me, direct communication and word of mouth. It seems to stay slightly ahead of search engine results for me, always - as my communities get higher in search results, they get more traffic from there of course, but word of mouth has a slight edge.

I think the best, free and most targeted traffic comes from search engines. And SEs like to see excellent content on websites and rank such excellent content high in SERPs.
So basically, to get lot of targeted and free traffic, one just needs to write excellent content for his/her site.

Angilina is absolutely right; the organic traffic that comes from search engines is the most reliable with low bounce rate. Although it require lots of hard work in search engine optimization and an investment of time still the results are satisfactory.
Social media, Social book marking, article submission and blog commenting are the alternate ones.

Those techniques can give traffic to your site. So if you really wants to have more traffic, then you should use all of that. If you only choose one, then that might not work with your niche.

according to me, social bookmarking is best way to get traffic
Social bookmarking is one means of communication that has developed through the increased use of social websites. Through this, people will share pages that they find interesting with other people in their network and thus increase traffic for that page. By sharing or bookmarking the page, they encourage other people to go to the link and read the content that they found interesting. When hundreds of thousands of people do it, you are bound to get some sales.
albeit, all get good traffic like article, press release, forum, social network, social media
but as you say which is better then for me Social Bookmarking

I've tried article submissions to get traffic but they don't seem to work for me. Submitted a few articles to EzineArticles but no one seems to be publishing them on thier sites. Anyone else notice the same?

Did you publish high-quality articles in a niche where republishing is an accepted practice?
How long did you wait to see results? These results typically take a month or two just to start.
I've sent about a thousand articles to article directories this year. It does work quite well for some of my niches.

I submitted to EzineArticles about two month since approval. Maybe I need to wait longer for results. Thanks for the advice
