Is there such a tool that will check position for a specific keyword or phrase without manually searching Google

I think you are talking about SERP not PR.

yes, you can check SERP by using a tool such as geoseo but you can also do it to see how many backlinks with that specific anchor text have (good when personal search options are shown) allinanchor:"YOURKEYWORDSHERE" shows how many are competing directly for that term/phrase and where you rank.

Okay, PR is for RageRank - the value displayed in the google toolbar, 0 to 10. PageRank is assigned to site pages and is theoretically there to give an idea of the value of a particular page as seen by google. Higher PR does not mean higher rankings.

SERP is for Search Engine Results Page (the rankings, i.e. the position, for a particular keyword).

What you originally meant is rankings, not PageRank

I use Rank Checker from seobook.com. You enter the keywords and the rankings (on Google, Yahoo and MSN) on your website for those keywords are returned.

http://www.seomoz.org/ is also an option

If you address it as PR people might think its Page Rank, the right abbreviation for keyword rankings is SERP.

Yes, there are lots of tools that you can use to check your SERP and some good tools are mentioned on recent posts.
