Yahoo is just as bad as My Search
Many of you probably know that very annoying ad-ware that installs on your computer without your knowledge, such as My Search Bar.
Today i installed macromedia shockwave and it restarted the browser in order to get it integrated. When the browser came back up, it had a Yahoo tool bar!!
Of course, i can't be entierly sure it came with macromedia eventhough it very much looked like it. But the point is, that Yahoo has integrated their tool bar to software as a third party program.
It will be interesting to see if this kind of marketing will lead to succes or failiure because of ad-ware.
I know i didn't press yes to install it

And now it's asking me to verify the email adress i submitted to them.
The only problem is that i never submitted it, but somehow they did know it.

Well, don't submit anything then - almost certainly a method of harvesting.
I wouldn't be surprised if the toolbar that comes up is not the official Yahoo! toolbar if this is a result of spyware.

I doubt a company such as yahoo are going to jeperdise their reputation by resorting to adware. My guess is you inadvertantly installed it or as i.brian said- it isn't the official toolbar.

Yes, it does seem that it is a fake toolbar. However, when using it's search function, it delivers the exact same results as yahoo's site.
That's what bothers me with it. It has removed Google toolbar from my browser without my permission of course. I can even log in to my yahoo mail account from the toolbar. Everything about it seems real. I can't see any advertisements as you do most of the time with ad-ware, whatsoever.
I can log in to my yahoo mail account from the toolbar, and log out again from the toolbar (and see the original messages).
So if this is not some real yahoo toolbar, they are some seriously good hackers.
I my opinion, this is yahoo. I'm just surprised that the toolbar installed without my knowledge, and now it has removed the Google toolbar from the browser. Just surprized to see yahoo resorting to browser highjacking.
The reason i say it has removed the google toolbar is because when i right click the browser window i can choose which toolbar to have activated, and if i press "Google", Yahoo appears.
If this isn't the yahoo toolbar, i think that the ones who made it, deserve credit for some good work

In other words. There is simply nothing which the toolbar shows that promotes anything else than yahoo itself

No anti spyware programs such as ad-aware and spybot recognize it either

No sorry, i can't post a screenshot because i uninstalled it.
And yes, it could be uninstalled from the ad/remove programs.
However i think i'll try and install it from the yahoo website, and see if it acts the same as the one i had

the deal with replacing itself over google's name in the list is a glich that I get with a lot of toolbars... legit toolbars... I think it has something to do with being made by so many different sources that they override one another... who knows.
I just wanted to note that the google replace in the dropdown does happen from time to time.

Ya know, it did ask you whether you wanted it to be installed when you installed Shockwave. It asked me, and I said no.

Yes, when you installing new version of Flash it actually asks "Do you want to install yahoo toolbar" you probably clicked without looking.
I was just about to do the same.
