Are you talking about the rel=canonical redirect? It's with in the meta tags... As it is stated here:

Can rel="canonical" be a redirect?
Yes, you can specify a URL that redirects as a canonical URL. Google will then process the redirect as usual and try to index it.

I've tried it before, waited till the Google bot visited my site in order to index my canonical code but it didn't work
