I don't suggest flash website and highly recommended to avoid flash in your website content. Flash not only makes your website heavy but also difficult to download. if you use always give alternative text behind the images!!

Well if you're just going to embed the flash on your site then it's ok but if you over do it, it can cause slow loading of your site. What's not advisable is making your site entirely on flash.

I think most people who make this claim are basing it on Flash Only sites, not sites with flash embedded in static .html.

I read before and article whic says that Google crawling flash content.. but its taking some more time.... than html content... M little bit confuce on the flash content distribution on html source....

Hi,
It's correct that flash site are more relevant for SEO. It create page heavy and cause bounce rate very high which is not good for getting high traffic.

The other thing you need to consider when using Flash is your audience and the hardware they'll be viewing your site with. If you run a Family Website the chances are that hardware will vary from really new to really old as will their internet connections from broadband to dial up (not exactly flash friendly).

If you're interested in generous amounts of Flash then be sure your audience isn't on dial up and is using better hardware. Good examples of sites that can use flash are gaming websites, tech sites, video sites, etc.

Lastly, if you're a total Flash junkie make sure you at least add some static images that are quick to load while your movies buffer because there's nothing more annoying than watching a page full of buffering status bars.

Lastly x 2, don't add sound because you can, add sound because it actually ads something to the content and make sure it can be disabled or better yet, must be enabled to actually hear. I'm sure we've all visited pages where someone has a player of some sort running on page refresh so God forbid you actually have to visit that page 2 or 3 times as you'll hear the first few seconds of the same bl00dy song, movie, etc., over and over.

Flash can be eye catching and make for a beautiful aesthetic if done right or it can be your worst enemy and the reason why your visitors never return.

The fact - in earlier days, flash based websites were not optimized. But today there are ways in which you flash based websites are easily optimized as google has allowed the SEO friendly behavior of flash based websites.

Ive built fullscreen flash sites before and the client didnt want them optimised. It depends what the project is. You will find a lot of flash sites for music artists.. the official site will always get traffic and will be page heavy with embedded video and audio.

Of course a HTML site will be crawled easier.. but if there no news or updates then the client may not always care.

You can easily make Flash look better and it's can be lot more interactive than boring HTML sites.
