Hi, is there a way to tell a spider (google) to not follow a particular link on my webpage? Google is giving me 8 Crawl errors on a new webpage I submitted and I can't figure out why!!! the site is www.randolphmotors.com , can someone help me figure this out please?

Thank you,

If you do not want search bots to follow a specific link then use rel="nofollow":
Code:
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.URLudon'twantfollowed.com">whatever</a>

The above is correct but it could lead to pagerank loss. You can also block them with obfuscated javascript or iframes.

Only if someone does it against you, otherwise it retains PR juice from being passed from your site -> this site.

However, Google is starting to catch up with this tactic and is starting to penalize for PageRank structuring.

It retains nothing. Google changed the algorithm a month ago and leads to pagerank loss. You should check the mattcutts post.

By the way there are ways to continue doing pagerank sculpting. Javascript, flash and iframes are some of them

Wink Thank you

Thank you for your help. I have another problem maybe you can help me with. In Google under my Webmaster tools, under crawl errors, it's telling me that there are 20 "Not Found" errors: Any idea why? it says 404 (Not Found) and it shows me links that don't even exist such as;

http://www.randolphmotors.com/apps/s...5573&page=join
-or-
http://www.randolphmotors.com/apps/s...009&make=ASUNA

I do know that this domain was pointing elsewhere before I started working on it, but how is it that they are crawling to those pages if they don't exist? and are not on the website linked anywhere?

Please help, thank you

Hi,

I would really recommend running your site through a (free) product such as Xenu link sleuth. This will crawl your site pretty much like a search engine would and will report on all link issues.

It should be easily able to tell you where these Google errors are coming from.
