Question about Google PR rank

So, my design skills are way beyond my marketing and SEO skills. I have no idea what any of this stuff means, so here's my stupid question.

I have a site that comes up on the first page of Google for its 2 primary sets of keywords. It comes up on the first page several other times, but I wouldn't consider those search queries as keywords as they don't get more than maybe 10 hits a day.

So, according to Google, the local language search volume for one of the keywords is 60,500 per month and the other one is 33,100 per month.

So what do I consider my PR rank. Is that enough to declare it a PR1 (and is that good)?

The reason I ask, besides curiosity, is that I'm trying to get people to exchange links with me, and I want to make it seem appealing.

Thanks for your help.

Hi zannucci,

Normally we 'mere mortal humans' don't get to set our own google PR, it's set by a massive algortihm that calculates a score out of 10 for each page that is stored in the google database.
If you dont run google toolbar in your favourite internet browser (the PR display is available in options) then you could do a google search for 'whats my PR?' then have a look through the forums for a future PR checker.

Something else to go through is some of the for and against PR forum posts taht are in the seo google forums. Some of us seo'rs don't really have much 'faith' (may not be the right word' in google's PR system.
Basically it may not be the most important thing to look for when exchanging links.

goodluck!

PR has nothing to do with traffic. You increase your PR purely and simply by getting links.

You can check your PR by installing the Google Bar or by checking it with an online tool like this one: http://www.pageranktool.net/

BUT my 2 cents will be not to worry about PR but exchange links that make sense in a user point of view.

Thanks. That helps, but now I have another question. Is lower PR good or higher PR? I was assuming that PR1 was the best (meaning you were at the front), but now that I run various sites through the PR meter, it's pretty clear that this is the reverse, that a higher PR is better (for what it's worth, the site I was so enamoured with is a PR2).

Do I have that right?

I think that's good advice. I'm just trying to understand what PR is. Apparently I didn't understand it at all.

the higher the better. you start at Nothing, then Pr0, 1, 2 etc...up to 10. it's an exponential scale so past PR5 it gets really hard to go up one number.

Thanks. Well, that will be interesting to watch over time, I guess, but not something to worry that much about, as you all have said.

That site with a PR2 doesn't get a lot of organic linking because of the topic, which is rather irrelevant to most blogging sites, so I have to go around and beg for links.

Thanks for all the help. I had no idea what Google PR was.
