Two Links or One?

Hi,

I have an offer from a site with a PR 7 to give one of my sites 2 links from their homepage for two separate but highly relevant keyphrases.

For example, the anchor text for each would be:
Hotel Accomodations (from the upper page)
Hotel Bookings (from the middle page)

Is this a great opportunity for my site - or can I be penalized for having two links to my site from the same site? Should I go for both or 1?

Thanks for any help.

Go for both... there shouldn't be any penalty for having 2 links from 1 site.

They will be counted as 1 link in PR computation. I don't know what happens if they link to different pages of your site.

2 links would be fine, so long as they are both spiderable.

Google will only look at one url per page. So it would be better to the second link went to one of your inner pages.

Don't worry about what GGs doning today or what they might do in the future - I'd try to consider the full benefits.

Does that single page that they are linking to optimize and capture traffic for both keyword phrases? If so, great. If not, you might want to consider having the second link point to a page designed for that traffic.

At the vey least it will improve your anchor text, which Yahoo & MSN aer definitely using and GG used to use...

What do you mean by this? I believe that anchor text of inbound links is still an important factor, perhaps weighted by the keyword relevancy of the page the IBL is coming from.

I'm pretty sure I've used multiple links to the same URL on the same page before, simply varying the anchor text, and received anchor text benefits across the links.

If you simply repeat the same link then my understanding is that there is a general - but untested - assumption that this will increase the weight of the URL for PR.

I have honestly never seen it claimed that multiple links to the same URL from the same page are in any way penalised - but in SEO terms it's worth hitting multiple anchor text variations if you find yourself repeating links. For example, breadcrumb links will often cause repetition of links on a page to the same URL, so it's worth considering using keyword variations to try and help ranking for those keywords for both anchor text and general keyword text benefits.

Brian, I have seen this mentioned on quite a lot of forums on the net including this one. Here it is mentioned only a few day's ago here http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/thread2912.html

I always keep an open mind when it comes to SEO; you could well be right about this one. Maybe only Google knows for sure about this though.

Google will count 2 links on one page to one page in PR computation and give a little more weight. Tests that people have done prove it apparently!
