Yes, search engine submissions are important, however, most of the time they will find and spider your site before you ever need to get accepted, unless you really want to be indexed, submit your URL to Google's add URL and make a sitemap.

LOL,
build it they will come.
When you registered your domain name the engines went looking for it. Hell, they'll find an IP.
But if you must because you think it will help - do it once - have two domain names - register one, they'll find the other with no penalty .....lol.
Just use this as an example (some have 5 on the first page i'm retired ....lol)- http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
(1 - 3)
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...&aq=f&oq=&aqi= - 3 or 4 of them
....lol
this site has 4 or 500 in the top 10 - never registered it - took a few days for the spiders to come through - msn spider took a week to find it.
Site map? - screw that - build your site so it can be spydered

You don't need to submit your site to the search engines. Get a few links back to your site and the search engines will find you.

Search engines submissions are NOT important and are a total waste of time and do not help a site at all. It has not been needed nor helpful since last century. The only people who think it is helpful are the "SEO kiddies". Anyone running a paid search engine submission service are running a scam.

Could you please explain how submitting to search engines actually helps? I have not submitted a single new site to any of the search engines since last century and they get good rankings and plenty of traffic. How do you explain that?
Did you even read what I wrote above?

It is not necessary to submit to SEs. Once your site got indexed, do not submit it again. It is may just be a waste of time.

for some reason some people believe that submitting their site to search engines on a frequent and regular basis is a good thing. Nothing can be further from the truth. Be patient and they will find you. Of course finding you and being able to spider your site are two totally different matters. Build a proper site map and place code for an xml site map as well (available from Google Webmaster tools).

Not all the time
It is still important to submit your site to niche search engines like engineering, machines, cooking, etc...

More than 90% of the search engines traffic comes from three major search engines Google, Yahoo! and MSN.
Submitting your site on hundreds of thousands search engines wouldn’t help and is simply not worth and is also very time consuming.
These three search engines provide results for many other search engines, and if you are listed on these three search engines, your site will be listed on many other search engines too.
Altavista for example show results from the Yahoo! index. Rankings are not the same, because the algorithm is different but index is the same. If your site is new and is listed on Yahoo but not on Altavista, be patient and do nothing. Altavista will show your site when they update their index from yahoo. AOL (America On Line) and Netscape use Google index.
The best way is to Post your links in the istes or directories that are getting frequently indexed. But be sure to provide enough “food" for the spiders. That is, submit your site in enough sources, and you will make that process shorter.
You will benefit from submitting your site in frequently indexed sources, not only because search engines will find your link there and index your site, but you will also increase your link popularity. Search engines consider each link who is pointing to your site as a one kind of vote and give him a “credit" for each “vote".

The main search engines of Google, Yahoo and Bing can easily detect the links online and then follow them to find and index websites and pages.
There is no reason to use the submission services any longer.

Just build quality links, no need to submit your site to many SE's. Also, just focus on Google.

No need to submit your site to SEs. They will find you if you have links back to your site.
