HTML to Ecommerce

Does anyone see a problem with building out a site as an .html informational site and then a few months down the road making it into an ecommerce site? A link campaign would be started, as well as building out many pages, then when the site was ready to sell insert the ecommerce part. The copy on the homepage would pretty much remain the same, but the other article pages would be moved to news or faq.

I really doubt the number of links would differ greatly depending on the site being/not being an acommerce site. Either way, you pretty much have to pay for links.

There isn't a problem.
If you have a good idea how and where you'll put in the ecom stuff, then you can start pointing links to the static html pages now. Try not to point links to pages that will change.

Not sure what you mean. I planned on buying links for the site. Obviously a lot of planning would need to be done design wise to make the ecommerce transition as smooth as possible without inteferring with the design of the site. I just figured that I'd get a head start on it all.

If your thought is that you can get a content site up now, build some links to it, and then work to add commerce as the links age, then, yes, I think you have a good idea.
