I dont understand why all my backlinks arent coming up on Search engines
Can someone tell me why...google only has me with 16 backlinks and yahoo with 39
when you do a search on my name and website 1200 links come up...
Even when I bracket my address for just links I get about 400
Also...I am listed in many spiritual directories all over the world...why doesnt google and yahoo and all the rest...pick up directories? Will they not pick up 7 and blue directories either?
The 16 links google has for me ...some of them make no sense..they are years old posts...on some blog that someone picked up something I said and quoted it, all my good links are not there, no directories are there.
Also google NEVER updates the links...they are stuck with the same number for ever it seems, even yahoo does better than that....
I just dont get this link thing. I am nervous about buying links becus I spend money for a link....that the search engines wont even pick up...even if it is a PR6
Does anyone understand this mystery?

It used to be that Google only showed backlinks on PR4(and up) pages. Since the past two updates this is no longer the case. how it is calculated at present times? No one knows and 'SEO experts' all over the world are asking the same question.

Yep, what he said.
Also, when did you aquire the backlinks. Over what period of time? It seems to currently be taking Google a long time to update backlinks. I've read it's over 3 months now.

Exactly, thebassman. They are attempting to discourage the selling of links.

Google will surely pick up PR6 link, but might not show it.
I don`t think worth of PR6 link has gone that down. Yahoo is showing more BLs because its not hiding links from webmasters like GG.

Buying Links---not A Good Idea
You know I read somewhere else in this forum about how the search engines may penalize websites for paid links--I thought about that and what was written here as well and it does make some sense...
for instance...people who buy links- the kind that companies make you pay a monthly fee... if google registered them and your rank moved up and then 3 months later you ran out of money and could not pay for the monthly fees....and they deleted say 20-50 links....your site would CRASH and google would then see that you were not a valid website that earned those links but instead was trying to buy your way to the top, your site would go to much lower rank becus you lost a bunch of links all at once. this is a bad practice I think...buying links as I just now really thought about it.
I think it would be okay to buy a link that was permanent..so no matter how bad your income level was you wouldnt lose your link. Peoples links come and go but its one here and one there...so google wont crash your rank over losing one link here or there...but losing a dozen or 25 at one time...cause you could not pay the bills....this would make the seach engine chaotic...and also why would you use google? Since you KNOW the person on the first page...may not be a reliable company with good service...they could be instead...just some smuck..that put a lot of money into buying links!
This link buying thing....I think is NOT a good idea

You are right, it's not. At the other hand there are plenty possibilities to advertise on the net.

link renting itself is not a bad concept, just it is not needed for most sites and should be done with the engine in mind...ie think of how the engine will see it.

Your lucky IMO. Good authority links dont show up becuase people cant go around stealing them... only the naff links show up. (please don’t ask me to prove this because I only have confidential proof)
As for buying links people would put in competitors sites to get them banned so it does not factor.

One of the best sources for seeing (almost) all your links (in my opinion) is the new MSN - http://techpreview.search.msn.com - very impressive - just use the link: command.

You must use link: http://www.sumthin.com
I like it, it gives me more backlinks (some really old ones) that in Yahoo! don't appear.
That is great! I think MSN Search Engine will spice things a little bit, Google will have to go back to more and more updates
Also, it's amazing the quantity of websites using DMOZ data...

wow you are right there are TONS more links that show up in this search engine...However I did notice that I am listed in lots and lots of directories I never even heard of... they all use the DMOZ I guess...google and others do not bother to register all the directory links using DMOZ perhaps they feel..these directories arent relivant since they just download the directory and have no idea...whats in it...I am on directories that have absolutely NOTHING to do with my topic...
Also I notice this very thread...is listed but NOT my links in the
two directories which I PAID for and have a page rank ...that is wierd both the 7 and blue directories are not there ...but this post is. strange. Also some of the links google has are missing from msn diretory
Thanks for clearing it up...I will use it also to get an idea of my links
