The best method is find a long tails keyword which applicable to your niche. Then, add some unique content by using this keyword in both tittle and inside content, at the same time, use this long tails keyword as your H1 or H2.

I've never tried RSS. I've been doing this so long and never wanted to use anything to do with RSS. I don't use it in my personal life and I guess that just made me not care about it for SEO either. Maybe I should give it a shot and see how well it works.

If you want very popular keywords... I did SEO for one of my clients and we was trying to push his relationship site to #1 on Google for 3 keywords (relationship, relationships, relationship advice). It took about 4-5 month and we was #1 ahead of Dr. phill site. Now he is between #1-4 ann the time.

Here how we did it:

1) Pick only 2-5 really popular keywords.
2) Expect to spend $3000 - $4000
3) Add keywords in Meta Title
4) Add keywords in meta description
5) Add keywords in meta keywords
6) Add keywords on a homepage somewhere in content
7) Add keywords somewhere in main title on a homepage (Example: Online network to give relationship advice)
8 ) Tag some pictures (alt) and insert each keyword in one of them.
9) Write unique articles in top article networks and add links with keyword as anchor. You need to write at least 10 unique articles with good information.
10) Write articles and posts in social networks like Squidoo or Jamespot (Quality articles, again).
11) Buy 5-10 press releases on PrWeb usinf their $360 service. Submit press release every 2-3 weeks.
12) Hard part, go to bloggers and ask them for good "guest post". You need bunch of them.
13) You can also use some directory submissions but don't submit in too many of them.

P.S. Building links in anchor dont just put keyword. Mix it with other words as well to avoid Google punishment for keyword spam. Yes, Google can punish when it see you building bunch links with the same anchor over and over again.

You have to keep patience and regular SEO work.
Black hat seo can take less time...but no one will suggest you to follow this techniques.
