Search Engine Optimization for Bing
This doesn't sound much different than what you do for the "other" search engine and directory:
Quote:
Bing’s SEO principles
SEO is fundamentally about creating websites that are good for people. The most basic advice we can give for achieving optimum rank for your site in Bing is to do the following:
- Develop great, original content (including well-implemented keywords) directed toward your intended audience
- Use well-architected code in your webpages (including images and Sitemaps) so that users’ web browsers and search engine crawlers can read the content you want indexed)
- Earn several, high-quality, authoritative inbound links
...The type of SEO work and tasks webmasters need to perform to be successful in Bing hasn’t changed—all of the legitimate, time-tested, SEO skills and knowledge that webmasters have invested in previously apply fully today with Bing. Moreover, investments in solid, reputable SEO work made for Bing will bring similar improvements in your website’s page rank in other search engines as well....

Bing is old live with new bells and whistles. All it need is old domains with lot of keyword stuffing to rank in bing. It does give lotta weightage to the age of links as well.

Not really. Bing tend to split the favor equally between on-page and off-page optimization while Google treat off-page as primary for SERP and on-page for relevancy. To rank well in google you need to satisfy 200 factors but I don't know what goes with Bing. Also, I don't know if Bing has fully adapted crawler-based type search engine as it is obvious that Bing is somehow blind to see other pages within the site.

Hi,
I think both Google and bing has same criteria for indexing websites, there standards may differ, but on the whole they produce nearly same search results. I think i have to make a search on this.

Not really.
The difference is a> Bing pays more attention to keyword stuffing b> bing pays more attention to age of site c> bing pays more attention to age of backlink d> bing pays excessive attention to if above 3 criteria are fulfilled then to fresh content.

Be sure to sign up for a bing webmaster tools account and submit a sitemap.
Bing is not too good at indexing inner pages. One of my forums has 60,000 - 70,000 threads, and Bing has only indexed around 6,000 pages.
Another one of my blogs that has a forum, it has about 4,000 - 5,000 post in the forum and 160 - 170 post on the blog. And bing has only indexed about 10 pages.
But that was before I submitted a sitemap. Now bing has about 30 pages indexed instead of 10.

Every search engine follows the same criteria, there's nothing new in it.

Hi htmlbasictutor
no difference between search engines criteria to index sites. bing is a little bit differ, it requires MSN backlinks for periority. it is nes name of live.com same as the live was alternative name of msn.

Right, though there are in deed minor difference here, but most of us won't change our ways to do SEO for BING.
So it is still the on site and off site SEO thing. Do SEO mainly for Google, then BING will also follow, i guess!

For what it's worth, I think Bing gives more weight to on-site content - that seems to be the biggest difference between the top contenders in its SERPS.
I just love how now there seems to be a trend in the press to link google and bing -- have you all been hearing, "google or bing"? - it made me want to go look at them.
I like the easy way you can click on photos - great when you are searching for turtlenecks.
I think this may be a user-friendlier site than most search engines. I hope it takes off! (Especially since I do well there....)

But as of now, I don't think giving to much time on bing is worth your time since currently there is only a small percentage of users of bing.
