Traffic trends

Good Day everyone,

One of our clients is seeing their traffic drop despite SEO efforts. PR is increasing, and has been since say one, but the last month has been very weak on traffic. Anyone in the same boat? Any explainations that might fit this pattern?

what industry is the client in? Traffic trends will vary from industry to industry so a bit of background would be helpful. Also, is the drop in traffic consistent across all marketing areas, or just a drop in google(and other SEs)?

The client is in the real estate business: neighborhoodscout dot com . I haven't analized the logs yet to see where the drop in traffic comes in; If it is lost ground on some popular terms, maybe a drop in links from sources other than Google... It will take me a couple of days to analise his old traffic patterns and current, make a comparison. I don't want to do this if everyone is seeing lower traffic (US election, hurricanes in florida, mt. saint. helen, and what not?). This client wants results yesterday, and while I think we don't have much to worry about in the long term, him wanting results sooner then later results in a lot of checking up on things like that where I could be spending the time on actual SEO... I want to make sure that this is not part of a much larger picture and that this kind of research into his stats is going to give us some answers that are in this case uniqe to him. Thanks for your response.

I only mention the increase of PR to show that the site pages are not black listed or anything like that.

I would venture to say that Real-estate is on it's way down, it was what was keeping the economy going for the last few years...in fact it was booming. I think it might be on a downward trend. I could be wrong.
interest rate goes down...real-estate market gets hot.
interest rate goes up...real-estate market cools off.

The real question is:

Have your SERP positions changed for your money keywords?

I don't think it is a matter of real estate going down hill. He wouldn't see this kind of drop so quickly. I really don't know if the money maker terms are down, or what is happening. Before I investigated I wanted to make sure this wasn't something common to a lot of sites. Maybe something like "kids are back to school, so they don't surf the web". His conversion rates are low, so it could be that he was getting all this traffic from kiddies bored at home, clicking links...
