Does Directory Submission Really Helps?

Hi all,
I know that this seems to be a stupid question but can you please tell me that "Does Directory Submission Really Helps?".
I mean I am working on a site from past 6 months and have done abut 2000 directory submission manually and only 40-50 got rejected because they have PR criteria, but still if i assume that from those 1950 about 500 directory submission are approved, so it means that must be some backlinks from those sites but when i watch the backlinks of that website i don't see them and even if i see that in GOOGLE i don't see links from those directories just 10 -20 of those directories are shown in the GOOGLE search and some of them are inter-related so i even can't say that those links were helping in any kind.

So can you please help me in that matter?, i just wanna know that what is the effect done by directory submission except indexing the Home Page and some deep links,if the option is available in those directories.

I have done directory submission for one of my sites, one year ago. I submitted to more than 1000 directories. But in Google Webmaster tools, I only see 10 or so backlinks coming from those directories.

I will suggest to only submit your site to top directories like Yahoo Directory. Submitting to 1000's of directories will not help in any way.

Directories help in building more backlinks to your site.It is very useful in building one way backlinks.Only the high pagerank directories will be indexed in search engines and most directories takes times to got approval.But it is still useful.

Hi,

I think that directory submission is very useful for one way linking. It may take more time, but once approved your site can easily get links from other sites having higher PR.

Directories submission is a good way to get a free link to your website. They also increase your chances at being listed higher on popular search engines.

I did more directories but i dint get considerable back links. There is no value for directory submission now a day, and it utterly lose its quality.

Directory submission is time taking but it is very essential for any domain to increase the popularity. The more you submit directory the more your URL and Title will be popular on the web.

Directory submission is obviously time consuming but one the effective way to promote your website.

IF you are submitting on "PAID" directories it will be very helpful to shoot your rank in google and major search engine.

i seriously doubt whether Directory submission really help or not, coz last month i had hired somebody to do manual submissions daily to 20 directories, h gave me around 500-550 submissions, but its been a month but only 30-40 are showing in the backlink watch

Directory Submission is still worthful in building one-way backlinks. I suggest you to check PR and Cache Details for any Directory before submission.

I don't get it, if i cannot see my websites link on net with the targeted keywords then how are they helping me in popularizing my website, i even don't think that i get traffic from those website.

So please clarify.

Hello,
Here is the best directory list out there and you will be surprised how fast some approvals are.I didn't wait 2-3 months like some of them said.I was getting approvals 2-3 days on free submissions.The best thing they show the page rank.
and most of them are dofollows. http://www.directorycritic.com
Do them in Mozilla that way everything comes right up it's the quickest way.

I stopped long time ago wasting my time submitting to website directories. But do bother yourself to submit to dmoz.org and if you have the funds, I hear yahoo directory is also worth every penny. It usually takes me multiple tries to get accepted to dmoz, but really, my sites have done fine without it. As far as the rest of the directories are concerned, I wouldn't expect to get traffic from them and you'll get a backlink if you are lucky. It's more productive to use your time improving your site in any other ways than spending the same time submitting to 2000 directories.

Only if Google is giving importance to PR. In terms of traffic its just a waste of time. They not even provide 1% of traffic. Instead of that submit your site to the search engines. Here is a list of search engines i have found and the good news is all are working properly. Check it out.

Well, as I always say, it depends! You should choose quality directories to submit your website, there are tons of crap directories where you can gather worthless links, or even worse, none at all!

For me, directory submission became obsolete and ineffective. I don't think it will boost your site ranking that much. It would help a little but for me it is next to useless.

Many amateurs thinks it doesn't help

Simply it helps but like many other ways must be done smart not stupid

Do you care to elaborate further? You may think I'm trying to be sarcastic, but I'm not. I participate on forums like this to learn and sometimes that means being contradicted. So please, do tell us how website directory submission has helped you and how you go about doing it. Like to how many of them do you submit to, which ones you find to be the best directory, and how exactly it has helped you.

Directories submission is very important you can build website link popular and get top ranking in search engine. Before submitting in directories, it is necessary to have proper key phrases, rich text that exactly explains your website. Select most appropriate category for submitting website.......

First of all thtis must be done manual so don't hire services that claim like 2000 submissions for 20$ that's sure not manual

Secondly of course for a competitive keyphrases won't make a big diffrence (but it helps in the long term efforts) for not very competitive keyphrases it does wonders

Olso doing 2000 submissions in 2 days is not good if it's a new site do it in 1-3 months

If it's a older site do it in 2 weeks or so
