I am sure it is in some markets, usually its a better idea to use many pages though.

i dont think so
it's my understanding that pagerank can at max be "1" because pagerank can not be higher than the total number of pages.. i dont think you can be that competitive with a pagerank of 1... but maybe with tons of inbound links might offset it.

this is not true. a singe page website can have a PageRank much higher than 1.

Why would you only want one page? I'd think if it was significant enough to do a website for, you could find more than one page to talk about it.

Ive optimized a site with 2 pages to a natural rank of 4 in Yahoo...and 6 in MSN and as as of yet, it still has nothing, organically speaking, in G yet....
