Thumbs down for link exchanges! Those are not quality backlinks. Most link exchanges you end up getting a link on a page that will never really give you any link value. Reason being most link exchanges you get a link on a page saturated with tons of other links to other websites. Which means any value a link had on that page is then split between all those links out to other sites, then on top of that most link exchanges you end up on a page in a link directory which is rarely crawled or give any link value anyways as Google knows it's just a link directory.
