Focus on a certain keyword and for the optimization of your site that way you site can be on top of the search engine. Just don't be on a rush else it will lead to a failure.

First you do keyword research. In other words, what is your target keywords.

Do on site and off site optimizing accordingly. Get LOTS of backlinks with your keyword.

Do search engine optimization in ETHICAL way.

yes, i think so with you, and the main inportant is that you must kown that what keywords you want to do , and of course the keywords shoud have the relevance of your site is very strong.

you need to get backlink on your targeted keywords

if you collect related and quality backlinks on your targeted keywords

Its give you good ranking on search engine.

For getting backlinks you need to do directory submission, article submission,
Blog posting, Comment Posting, Forum Posting, bookmarking.

Also you need to do good inter linking(On Page Optimization)

IMO, you have to focus to one of your major keyword that has less competitors, study how your competitors do their tactics and do a lot of link building to have more traffic and backlinks. Once you have done all those things you will see the output of your hard working, anyway SEO is a ending task.

This is a competitive era. Try to optimize your site first for those related keywords that have low search volume. This may help you to attract low but relevant visitors even from high competition. Then slowly move for high volume keywords.
