Wink Long keyword phrases

Hello everyone,

I am wondering about how SE read keyword phrases.
On yahoo I am page one, number one for the phrase "professional spy gear", which I am very proud of. The problem is for the phrase "spy gear" I am nowhere to be found. Do the SE not take the partial keyword phrase into consideration? Will I need to do a full backlink campaign for just "spy gear" to get noticed for that term.

Thanks to everyone

Search Engines take partial keyword phrase into consideration. Three phase keyword is less competitive than two phrase KW and two phrase KW is less competitive than one phrase KW. Number of competitors website will increase if you 1-2 phrase keywords.

BTW "spy gear" is more competitive than "professional spy gear". Normally people will search spy gear rather than professional spy gear.

The long keyword phrases would be great because when you check out the stats section of your hosting panel, you will find a lot more phrases and sentences which have been used before people finding your website over the net and targeting more terms means traffic.

You may be wondering why anybody would want to target hundreds or thousands of keywords which bring only small traffic. Well the answer is simply that there is less competition so you can rank on the first page of Google for long tail keywords far easier than ranking for short tail keywords.

Yes, they don’t bring a lot of traffic separately but if you target lots of long tail keywords you can get lots of easy traffic. Not everybody is capable of ranking highly for highly competitive keywords but anybody(!) can rank for long tail keywords.

I use a script called www.hittail.com to track my long tail, it's a great application that has really let me see what people are searching to find my sites.

Very useful your link. I think long tail can increase your visitor rate if you know how to choose these keywords. It's better to be at first page for 10 long tail keyword vs. one keyword with good traffic (more difficult to obtain first page for it).

Good advice here. As I'm putting together a number of keyword phrases for our insurance websites, I have found that the competition for phrases like "pennsylvania life insurance" aren't anywhere close to being as competitive as just "life insurance."

In my industry I'm going up against some big boys... metlife, new york life, etc... and I can't expect to knock them off the first page... at least not yet

So, like you have all mentioned, I'm targeting out searches for more detailed and specific searched. If I can get the 35 or so searches instead of 350 for a smaller phrase, I'll take it.

Sometimes the order also matters. e.g if you try 'professional spy gear' or 'spy gear professional' then probably you will get different results.

You can target multiple keywords for the same URL using this structure

http://www.v7n.com?=example-keyword
and an anchor text Example Keyword

http://www.v7n.com?=cool-forums
and a anchor text Cool Forums

http://www.v7n.com?=long-tail-end-keyword
and Long Tail End Keywords as the anchor text.

Google will even index the url as is.

Just a tip to expand your promotion campaign to more then just a couple keywords/phrases.

cheers
adam

Not really and in that case you will be spamming the google with single anchor text...use like with combinations of

best <keyword>
affordable <keyword>

Spy gear is the most common keyword and you will find many results for this. If you start optimizing for this keyword, you will take a huge amount of time for this. Best id you should find keyword for which results are less and use a proper keyword phrase.

Using a proper Keyword will you float you through

well it depends upon the traffic density and worth of a particular keyword. Keyword "professional spy gear" is less worthy than "spy gear" so thats why you can't find your website in that keyword

At first I really thought I would have to do backlink campaigns for all the keywords I would like to rank well for, but Google was able to figure out what my site was about and rank me well for keywords which I was not even listed for when I ran the inanchor search. I really don't know about Yahoo since Google carries the majority of the traffic, but for Google you don't need to do full campaigns for all they keywords which you would like to rank well for usually do your main campaign for your main key terms then keep check on others if they are not performing as well as your main ones then it would be ok to build a few extra links towards those keywords, but usually if your ranking well for your main term the side terms will follow. One thing though your keywords are backwords it is (probably) going to be easier to rank well for professional spy gear and a bit harder for spy gear. It would be a good idea to reverse and start working on the term spy gear then try and rank well for professional spy gear.

Example: When I reached the top 100 for make money online which took 6 months or so it only took a week or so to reach the top 100 for make money online free or make money free online. When I started adding more words the search volume went down and so did the competition making it quite a bit easier after building the links to rank well for those terms. Anyway I hope I got my point across.

professional spy gear have three words in this keyphrase, and spy gear have two words these two words are more competative then first so it is tough task to promote them, use all activities which you are use your primary keypharase as forum posting social bookmarking article submission, directory submission

I will say go to spy gear forums and see what keywords they use and make long tail keywords out of it. Also go to amazon and see the titles they use and see if there is long tail keywords that can help you.

Also use the wonderwheel of Google. It show what keywords people search that is related to spy gear.

All the best.

I agree with you, long tail is also useful it can help you a lot. And sometimes when people search and did not find they looking in a single word they use the long tail to get what they want.

Long keyword phrases can give your site a high ranking in SERPs because the search query is basically specific, and when your site has a great relevance with this keyword, definitely there are higher chances of your site being listed in the first lines of the search results.
