Microsites - Worth it?

A Microsite is a site that is built for the sole promotion of another site. If it is put on a separate IP address, is it worth it for SEO ranking?

Please don't respond with one line or the typical bs- it really just seems like people want a huge post count for no reason, and it seems stupid as well as it would keep away actual SEO discussion in the forums.

Cost of a microsite:

Besides the opportunity costs of setting one up, the cost is low. Purchasing a domain name and seperate ip address should cost about an extra 13 dollars yearly. Css design is free- and anyone with a cms can can set up a site that looks sincere quickly, less then an hour.

Populating the content is also easy- using tools like magpie rss and yahoo tubes you can get almost instant rotating content, though not entirely unique. From there, optimization of the site is required, as well as sincere hand written content.

(Other options is to host a blog or a forum in the same way, or even pages for each individual project. The individual project idea is great when we consider the Vince's Change).

Benefits of microsites:
Having a site that is of little importance to the main product is a great way to link swap effectively. Instead of putting it on the main site- put it on the microsite. Remember to maintain honesty. On top of that, for each different ip address, you can apply this additional link swap.

SERPS Domination
Holding SERP domination is a great way to make people not even try to enter the market. If your microsites all populate the top results, it creates quite the barrier of entry for anyone competing for the term.

Inbound Link Control
You control the exact wording of all your inbound links. It allows you to help change the keywords when and if necessary.

Negatives of Microsites:
WORK creating microsites is time consuming and mind numbing work. The sense of accomplishment is small, and all the pages have to be maintained, else they will each begin to lose value.

I'm curious about thoughts or comments- or things people could interject?

I think the micro (mini) site is a fantastic approach if you're willing to put the work in. You can't stop at one. You need several to make a difference.

This is the kind of bs response I was complaining about. He's not discussing or even talking about anything.

Are you talking to me???? What is your problem? What are you "expecting" for a response dude? I have many, many microsites, and they take a lot of work to set up and get ranked. And then linking strategy is very important. Is that good enough for you? You gotta lighten up man!

Its not you specifically. In my second paragraph, I said something about one liners. This site is riddled with them.

In your response, you didn't add anything of value to the post. Even your second post is meaningless. I want a forum to be for discussion, not for 1 line snippets so people can get to w/e post limit they are trying to get to.

I'm not trying to attack you personally or anything. Its the forum- people read the title, and post a 1 line commit, thats almost barely relevent, and almost never adds anything.
