No Follow; Facebook

With all the constant barrage of social media and many commenting how much it helps (which I have personally found to be a terrible waste of time as compared to writing and posting my research articles, blogging and even videos to some extent), my question is does Facebook use no follow attibutes as MySpace does?

I have a MySpace account (including a separate proofessional one), which I have found to be a total waste of valuable time. If MySpace at least let my outbound links count it might be marginally worth the time spent with all the games, popularity contests and other poop that goes on there. As it stands now, I have links pointing in (which in essence MySpace is link hoarding), but none going out. I now currently post pictures, bios more now on my personal website where those interested can see them without the heavy handed removal of music players or other material that is mine by "Tom" (he would make a great dictator LOL)

Getting back to my question, many have told me that Facebook is better than MySpace, but after my experience with MySpace I am rather cautious about wasting more valuable time (I already work 70-80 hours, so every minute counts). So part two of the question (besides the no-follow tags), does Facebook have all the silly games, silly popularity contests, and heavy handed control over your own content?

Personally from MySpace, twitter and other social media I have dabbled in, I am very unimpressed.

Thanks for taking the time for anyone's thoughts
Carl

Facebook is better than MySpace but at lots of point facebook is lacking. I am a regular user of facbook but i am fed up of invitation that comes to me for joining the games and applications and all useless things. We are professionals so this may be the reason that we think about all this as a waste of time. I like twitter because i can search for the targeted people who are related to my topic and even helps in keeping myself updated with the news and happenings around.

I'm also a user of a facebook and I love their service. Facebook is better now since it is the no.2 website in traffic.

This is one problem I have with MySpace, however I may still take the time to set up a Facebook account and all that goes with it if I knew that they do not hoard links by using no follow tags and "warnings" like MySpace does. Otherwise this would be a waste of time as I can accomplish vastly more in SEO work in other ways than by being active at Facebook.

Your going to be lacking anchor text links in facebook and the only hope you have for getting backlinks is creating a fan page and hope people join it. Sometimes status links can help but.. they are gone in a couple of hours.

That's right the unwanted invitations are the most irritating thing about Facebook. Though i cant say about Facebook using no follow attribute.
