Backlink Value: Content vs. Blogroll
When it comes to the value of backlinks, what do search engines place more value on: backlinks on a blogroll/Links section, or when the backlink is actually in the content (e.g. a blog post, article, etc.)?

I prefer external links (blogroll/Links) because it comes from other high PR & relevant sites. it helps to increase your natural traffic.

I prefer backlink in content with targeted keywords in the title, url, and description.
Links from blogroll section may deliver links from irrelevant pages.

Blogroll and content are both important. Because if you don't have updated content your blog is useless. Blogrolls helps to build back links.

Of course the content. I read one article(sorry,I've forgot the source)saying that google is now clever enought to tell the links from content from blogroll and comment. And it will give more value to the links in content compared with those on blogroll and comment.

Is this the article?:

Scroll down to: July 2, 2009 - Less weight for irrelevant backlinks
It seems like the subject is split down the middle, but in the meantime, until I find more convincing findings, I suppose I'll try to obtain both blogroll & content backlinks.

If you have a link in a blogroll it will appear on all the pages of the blog - all posts, pages of months and categories. IMHO it's much better.

Both are useful but when it comes to buying some links, especially from high quality and PR blogs, the Blogrolls might be great and many top ranking sites are using them.

For me backlink in content is better but it is more difficult to get one. Maybe I must start guest posting or article marketing.

I think most people misunderstood the question...
What he refer to as content is a Hyperlinked KEYWORD in a blog post.
Compare this to a blogroll or link section (which does not contain blog posts).
Which of the two will Google give more value.
Well, I think Google will definitely get both of the links. But if you ask which has more value? For me there is no difference, as long as the page has relevance to your site.

Though both the links are equally important. But if you can get backlinks from some external sites that are higher in PR than your site than it will be even more beneficial for you.

External links from good PR sites is what counts more to the search engines. If the links are relevant links that is too good.

I would suggest everyone who thinks blogroll links are better do a search on Google for "site wide links"....

^I did a google search on "site wide links" and i'm a bit confused. So a site wide link is a link that appears on every page of the website?
So let me see if I understand this correctly, if you have a link on a blogroll (usually on the right side of the page) and you go from page to page on the website, but the link remains on the right side, that is considered a site wide link, correct?
I suppose I am confused because through the (minimal) research I did, a lot of people were mentioning directories.
Please clarify
