yeah, forum backlink is a good way to do seo, but you should not overdo it, then you will be punished by the forum , and i think if you post some valuable post on forum. then there will be more visitors to get into your website

I think that the importance of a backlink depends on the PR of the site from which we are getting the backlink, whether it is forum or a site. Other thing that effect the backlink factor is relevancy, if you have a backlink from a relevant site this have a very good impact on your site's PR.

Nope... in my opinion, but it still helps though. It won't give you enough link juice compare to like blog commenting on a blog that is relevant to yours. If you join forums just for that reason, then you are just wasting your time.. if not then its a good bonus that you get to put your links on your signature.

If you get backlinks (a signature or anchor link on a post) from highly relevant blogs and forums for your website and also if you have an original useful good content, that's it.

If the forum will be dofollow one, your signature link also will count as a back link.

I have never came across any of my forum backlinks in my webmaster tools account. What might be the cause of this ? even yesterday my webmaster tools was updated and still it remained the same.

probably because forum posting is such a useless way to get good backlinks.
