Trying to understand DMOZ directory and other DMOZ clones

If your site is accepted into the DMOZ directory, is it necessary to have your site submitted to all those other DMOZ clone directories?

A lot of the clones pull DMOZ results, so if you do get into DMOZ (good luck), you'll also end up with various other clone listings as well...

That's what I gathered, thanks for that. Hence the importance of getting into DMOZ.

While DMOZ is still important, if you have a commercial site, chances of getting in are quite slim in my view. The mantra in the resource-zone is "unique content'. That typically translates into 'informational sites that do not sell products or services".

The general recommendation is submit once to DMOZ, and forget it. Then go to work getting into all of the other major directories (15 - 30 depending on what you can afford). If one day you get DMOZ listed, it will be a pleasant surprise.

I wasn't even familiar with DMOZ, and when I saw this thread I checked and our site is listed.

DMOZ takes months and months to approve a listing. (manual verification of each listing).

My advice for DMOZ: take 5 minutes, submit, move on.
