duplicate content question

THey guys so I made a blog on blogger, and when you make a new post, it also updates to the homepage. So what I'm wondering is if this hurts your seo becasue of "duplicate content" I don't think it does because many websites with this format rank fine, however I just want to make sure before I start investing a lot of time into this website. THanks for your time and knowlege.

p.s. the main page doesn't show the whole post, just a snippet of it.

It wont hurt. I've read somewhere 'can't recall where' that duplicate content is detected when the meta description of pages match. i could be wrong though.
