It is rare that there's an excuse to put a link in a post but don't we all like to jump on the oportunity when it helps us but i don't think this is an unfair tactic. I don't think it's black hat, more grey hat just like social bookmarking. As long as you don't act spammy and you contribute in a reasonable manner I can't imagine you would be penalised

Link signature count as very little boost for SEO, only related quality links to your field are valuable.
The intention and purpose of link signature is exposure, not a SEO technique.

Why don't forum owners should create one section for posting links, So that no one spam the main forum all the junk links goes there and they get benefit of do-follow as well!!??

The reason I don't allow offsite linking of any kind (to members with 10 posts or less) is because well over 90% of it is either spam, nefarious in nature and/or simply using my site to advertise. I have no problem promoting anyone (provided it falls within the guidelines set forth by family friendly sites) provided there is ROI for my site via increased forum activity or a well placed backlink.
I'm also listed at Family Friendly Sites as well as certified "Web Everyone" with Safesurf and ICRA so I don't want links pointing everywhere especially if one of the sites in question hangs out in bad neighborhoods.
I can't speak to either black hat or white hat SEO but I can speak to integrity which I have and demand from anyone who wants to leave a link on my sites.

Forum spam is the creating of messages that are advertisements, abusive, or otherwise unwanted on Internet forums.

To be honest, When I came to this forum, I know very little about SEO; but i got lot of information and new ideas here.
I came across many threads which are repetitive and have stolen content; started for the sake of links in their signature but honestly still many using forums for sharing their about SEO and providing updates.
Forums is also for putting links in their signature - but it there should be some sharing along with that - I strongly believe this and many members int his forum really helping me by providing me many updates and knowledge..!
Hats up to you all..!
Thanks a lot..!

Forum Posting is not a spam method, but it is one of the best ways to build backlinks. Forum posts should be monitored because some forum posts are not relevant or doesn't help the discussion. Forum posts like "thanks" or "Ok" are considered spam posts and should be deleted. I'm confident that v7n forums doesn't tolerate spam and I'm happy posting and helping this forum.

There are editors from there that attend this forum, but having once edited there (8+ yrs) I can attest that there's either a misunderstanding about what happened or there's a LOT more to the story. There's no reason referencing a link in here would affect a listing there, so rest easy... a reference here doesnt affect your listing there.
Only exception to that would be if someone is selling a URL and includes a reference "listed in {insert directoryname here}". Directories list *sites* not URLs.

It depends, after all its their forum, right.hehe But you're suggestion was interesting. I'm pretty sure if forums start to make a section just for that I'm not gonna be surprised if I'll see new 1000 new threads per day there..lol

A lot of forums are abused, so many mods will ban at the slightest sign.
