Exclamation Advanced SEO Topics

I noticed that the members at this forum may not have exposure to many of the advanced topics of discussion in SEO, so I wanted to bring some resources to the forefront for those who may be interested in delving a little deeper in the world of search:

First off, I highly recommend reading www.seroundtable.com and www.threadwatch.org every day - both provide great SEO related news and findings, rather than just SE industry news.

Second, several specific topics have recently come up that deserve the attention of anyone who is very serious about future trends in SEO:
Temporal Link Analysis - http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...ead.php?t=2317
Weighted Link Rankings - http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...ead.php?t=2704
Term Vector Theory - http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...read.php?t=489
Filthy Linking Rich - http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...ead.php?t=2063
Google & Age of Sites - http://forums.seochat.com/t17923/s.html
Sandbox - http://www.socengine.com/seo/guide/s...ch-filter.html (links to many of the relevant resources)

Sorry to point off site so much, but I believe these resources can give a hand to those who might seek to advance their search optimization and search algorithm knowledge base.

Please post here with any comments or questions on any of these topics and I will do my best to answer.

Mike Grehan's "Filthy Linking Rich" is an especially good article.

Brian,

Good point, the direct link for that article is here - http://www.e-marketing-news.co.uk/Oc...chLinking.html and it is worth 20 minutes of any SEO's time.

I see your point but IMO its not the same thing. A site can stop voting for a page by removing the link... sure the smaller websites don’t usually do this but the large organisation websites will do?

It seems to me that this paper he referenced: http://oak.cs.ucla.edu/~cho/papers/cho-bias.pdf from the researchers at UCLA is a more worthwhile read as it's more to the point.

I think another problem for new sites like mine is that even if you do have more inbound links compared to a old competitor the older site can have thousands and thousands of pages compared to my 500 and so I just cant rank high enough and will always be behind no matter how many inbound links I get.

I would also highly recommend reading Mike Grehan's "Search Engine Marketing: A best practive Guide". It's currently in a second edition, but the third edition is due out very very soon. It really goes into the algorithms that search engines use, and general advanced SEO theory based on the maths. Great stuff, and kept simple for the layman, too.

I put up a review here:
http://www.platinax.co.uk/seo/review...h-engine-book/

and really do recommend any commercial SEO's to read it - if they haven't alerady.

Not if I was paid through paypal... You'd net like $700,000, rather than $850,000.... big difference there. :-p

I just bookmarked this thread... invaluable, thanks for the info.
