Well, you can finally download the thing. After emailing them twice and still coming up with a 404, I guess they decided to put it on
THIS download.com page.
I visit a lot of sites, research many competitors, who could be a competitor, and new areas to expand. So the ability to do quicker research is welcome. It checks backlinks and number of indexed pages on both G and DMOZ and it will save me some time.
The search box is pointless in my opinion because it's just one more. It defaults to G and there is no way I am replacing the G bar with this. The unfortunate thing about this is you actually have to be on the page to get the data. IMO, they'd be far better off to replace the search box with one where you can just pop in the domain name instead of going to the site first.
It's also got a pretty heavy footprint compared to other toolbars and so takes some memory, but for some people or the constantly curious, it could have some value.
I will keep it for awhile to see how much I do use it, but unless they lighten it up a bit, I doubt I'd be going for the paid version unless it has got some incredible functionality.
