If we add text to the pages :

Small fonts size

Same color as background (invisible)

Is this considered SPAM ,

What if we use regular font sizr and invisible is it spam too

invisiable text is a no-no... it's not SPAM, per sae, but not a good technique, and one that can get you banned from SE's.

The bassmans right.
That trick worked when Infoseek was alive, about 1998, 99 and they caught on quick (the search engins). Don't do it now...it will come back and kick your ass.

Don't use any type of "invisible" text. You should be able to create enough copy with visible text to do the job. You can also use css to position text if needed.

I recommend the use of invisible text to all my competitors.

Alt-text is a must! It's useful and can help your SE rankings.

Someone offered me a link from there homepage as a favor but in order to maintain the integrity of their graphics they had to make it invisible. Will this get me in trouble. Should I have them take it down immeditately?

Hidden links go against Google's guidelines. However, if you have not linked back to them it should not affect your site.

Adding invisible text on your background is not a good idea. I don’t think that it is considered as spam, but however know that some major search engines like Google for example don’t like it, and it could cost you dearly regarding website popularity, the search engine will just not index it most probably.

they usually still acnowledge the text, but it makes it harder to get others to want to link into your site if your site is using sketchy techniques
