Take a look at this article:

Getting on page 1 of Google isn't easy, but if you can get there, you can make a lot of money.
I have several sites that show up page 1 of Google for various keywords.
Why is showing up on the 1st page of Google so important? Because it is one of best ways (if not the best way) to drive traffic to your websites. It's is simple as this: most of your search engine traffic will come from Google.
Just how powerful a force is Google in getting people to your site? For most of my sites, between 75-80% of all search engine traffic comes from Google.

It depends on the keyword.
It's very, very simple to get on page one for a low competition keyword, and very difficult (and almost impossible) to get on the first page for the highest competition keywords out there.
The key is getting good, strong, non-spammy backlinks.

Article marketing, do-follow social bookmarking, signatures on forums, etc.
Just be sure to contribute to the site, and not spam

What blog software are you using currently?
Wordpress
blogger...etc
Reason why i'm asking this cause for wordpress there are some SEO plugins as in "All In One SEO" plugin that makes blog more SEO friendly. Then again, without building backlinks and providing fresh content on your blog, the search engine bot's will not stop by that much to index stuff.
Besides hearing members suggestions in this thread, you can also search the Blog Section here at V7N for other tips in helping you out in building backlinks. It's very hard to get to page 1 for your keywords that you are targeting. Then when you get there, the battle is not over and you need to continue building backlinks to stay there.

It would be best if you read a book about SEO or access the internet and look for tips on it. Also, using relevant keywords and link building are two of the most important tools to consider in SEO.

First of all you must know what is on-page and off-page SEO. Then as for a jump start try to create a blog using blogger or wordpress then add some good layout and content. That is called on-page optimization. After that try to promote your blog by using several linkbuilding techniques (search on this forum or google on what this means.

What you can do is to make your blog around long tailed keywords like go and open google search for "Dog traing", how many results came up millions, but now try this term "How to train your dog to sit" and see how many results come up, i am sure very few, so you build the site around that keywords.
Another thing is i am Jv with website traffic specialist if nothing work for you PM me and i will put you through to trial offer.
See you around.

Yes, I think if you choose a keyword that has no competition then your site or blog rank on top just after indexing in google. Am I right?

That's basically it, yes. Of course, there's no keyword (or very, very few) that have zero or close to zero competition, but for some keywords (especially 3-4 word ones) it can be possible to get a site on Google's first page (and right near the top) within a few days or weeks.
Just depends on the keyword really

Well blogs are a bit different but you want to isolate as many keywords that exist in your industry you plan on writing about. Use these keywords as a best practice guide and structure some post utilizing these keywords naturally. You will also want to perform some link building campaigns for your blog. If you approach your blog like a business you should see good results.

It helps search engines find all your pages. So yes, sitemaps (both the .xml format and a Human-accessible one) are important.
