I would just like to bump this thread because I am interested in an answer.
A couple of my vcompetitors seem to get a reasonable boost from being in these directories - I have had a look at their sites in reasonable detail and this seems to be a key factor.
Opinions?
Regards

I think it's necessary to spend some money listing your website in Yahoo directory, because some search engines quote from Yahoo and Dmoz to present your website's description. in addition to these two directories, you can also use free directory.

Why spend money if you can have traffic and backlinks for free, there are lots of free submission out there specially for directory submission, plus you can do link building which is other ways to have traffic and backlink without spending money. Hire a good SEO that will maintain your site to be ranked on the top.

There are other good high quality web directories to submit to that costs less money then the two you had mentioned. One good strong directory i love is www.romow.com. This is a PHPLD directory script hard to believe. (i still have 1 forum listed in there and i don't own anymore)
Anyways, another member here on V7N forum posted a link to a list of "strongest directories". You might want to check this out to investigate some of those directories. http://www.v7n.com/forums/seo-forum/...tory-list.html
To answer your question on Yahoo and BOTW... I would not submit to them and just use that money to submit to other quality paid directories that are a little bit cheaper. Get your money's worth by submitting to other directories on that list i just linked you to.

I'll never spend the money on a yahoo listing, isn't it 299$ a year and that's just for submission, doesn't' guaranty that you'll get listed.
There are plenty of other ways to spend that 300$ that will get you way more than a yahoo listing, especially if you are on dmoz already, I wouldn't waste your money.

Getting listed in BOTW and Yahoo really is worth it if you want to increase your rank with search engines, no questions about that. There are many opinions about this but if you will search the web, many SEO experts will say it is worth it if you can afford it. UNLESS of course you already have a decent rank specially with Google and you may no longer need the services of the two.
If you don’t have a decent rank yet, as mentioned above, there are many alternatives, there are many high PR low cost quality directories like what this forum has or you can browse dmoz.org or onewaytextlink.com for list of free and paid directories.
Congratulations by the way for having your site listed at dmoz.org.

The first year that Yahoo started the $299 charge, I build a site for a client.
Got him a #1 & #2 listing for his keywords and never paid a cent.
Without using any black hat. It can be done. It just takes a little research.
And "steady" work.

If you have the money to spend then why not use Yahoo directory? considering that Yahoo receives traffic that is close to that of Google's traffic
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/goo...com+yahoo.com/
I can understand on why people use Yahoo directory when they are searching and this is because of the maneuverability of the SE. It is easy to navigate and is user friendly. its not difficult to find what your looking for so by submitting your link to the proper category, people can find it easily. There are still some people who makes use of directories to find what they need and Yahoo is a known name and has been around since like what? 1995 or 1996(not sure about the year)?
The page rank of the directory is 8 (9 in other tools) and although there are discussions about the importance of PRs, having that PR for quite some time is still impressive...

Personally I'm on the fence either way with this. I do agree with what jabo said in that if you have the money, why not?
...however, I'd much rather spend that money on something fun for my daughter and I to do and just concentrate on getting targeted traffic via targeted, unique and informative content addition.
Either way I don't see it as a make or break for any website as you cannot rely on all your traffic from only a few sources anyway.

Already your site listed in dmoz so it would be automatically listing in google directory why you are wasting money to submit your site in yahoo directory and botw.
If you are getting link from yahoo and botw only PR distribution is benefit to you not much more customers can surfing yahoo directory and botw.
This back link is part of helping your keyword ranking in SERP's.
In my view Not Good as well as Not Bad.

I suggest not to spend money on yahoo directory because you can use free directory and almost of the free directory considered as back links in yahoo. It is not worth it and is better to look for a paid niche directory where you can put your link.

For me spending money for a permanent link in yahoo directory will help you to boost your rankings and traffic. Since yahoo directory is PR8 that will give you some good link juice to your website.

That's the whole idea of Yahoo, you pay to be considered (and inclusion is not guaranteed), that is the reason Google and Bing trust it (even though Yahoo is their main competitor) as only quality websites get listed.
I know you might say that there're some poor websites in there and I agree they should do the clean up time to time but the reason they are listed in there is because when those websites were considered for inclusion they were quality websites.
Yahoo directory still remains well recognised and respected directory on the internet, I don't know much about BOTW as I'm still thinking about submitting there.
