I can't say much as I have not tried pinging these search engines over and over. And the thought of pinging it again and again looks like a malicious act and I suspect these search engines could flag you somehow by overly doing it which is something bad.
Instead, I take advantage of social bookmarking to signal these search engines that I have a new content on my site and through that, I was able to transport to them my updates as well as gathered backlinks.

What is your understanding of "pinging the SEs"? Can you explain better what you are trying to ask please.
Pinging is usually associated with blogs and their RSS feeds but you can set up a RSS feed for a regular website and then use a pinging service to promote updates.

I am still trying to understand this method. The internet checks where a ping is used to check if an Internet Protocol is functioning, a pinging of a blog lets the world know that there is an update in the blog. All pinging does is tell the search engines that you've just updated your blog People like to look at new and fresh content, they are more likely to get over to your blog to see what is new.Since you are pinging to the search engines, article directories, blog directories, etc., there would be people who look at the updates that you post on these websites and search engines. This eventually drives more traffic and makes your blog more popular than it is now.It can also help your page rank.
Hope this helps you.

I guess that "IP-level" pinging and blog pinging are two different things. Isn't it?

Yes you are right sorry to confuse you.Usually your blog software can be configured to ping different services. To let your blogging software know about new sites to ping you need to supply it with the web address to ping. For example the Technorati addresses is rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
The ping message will let the indexing service know that your blog has been updated. As a result your new post will be indexed by the service.I hope this is less confusing for you. I don't know about you but I'm pinged ponged out.
It's like every time you add new content it's getting indexed.
Which will help your page rank and maybe traffic.

Pinging is helpful specially if you have a new post in your site or blog site, its the signal to the search engine that you have a fresh, new and hot of the grill content for your site or blog site.

Its nothing, as a member of this great forum we should help one another. Maybe today i answer your question and someday you have an idea to my future question. Give and take is one best thing in here and not all the time people knows everything.

Hi, amber.long83
I use an add-on called SitemapXML on my zen-cart site and it generate a sitemap in XML format daily and ping all 4 top search engines for submitting.
I think it might be helpful for deep indexing purposes.

It is used to tell the Search engines that you have updated the content on your website, and they need to come and spider it.
You can do this at http://www.pingler.com
Dont over do it.

Pinging could be helpful if you add a new post or content in your site or blog , it informs the SE that a new page have been published and thus invites to revisit the site or RSS feed or sitemap-file .
You can try autopinger.com or ping-o-matic to ping your sites.
