Fresh Content vs Back Links for SEO

Hello,

I am really interested in SEO which I want to get indexed on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and other major search engines.

What I have been doing in my free time is to create new pages adding to my sites and also submit my sites to web directories and article directories to get back links.

What method is better to get more traffic?

1. Fresh updated content.
2. Back links.

They are pretty much equal. You will not get popular without links, and your site will be useless without content.

Both!

you put fresh content on your site (preferably original) - then you get backlinks to that content - preferably with keyword anchor text links from related web pages with existing pagerank

In my own view, backlinks are more important than fresh contents.
You need buidling backlinks everyday but this is not necessary for page contents.

Try to build backlinks on blogs that will also help in optimizing your website. But just be sure you will not spam.

They are both useful to have a traffic. I just have a question, when you say backlinks are referring to those who already submitted or the one that you are planning to submit. If you referring to the one who is already submitted, it can be more useful because its already there and live while the other fresh one to be submitted will need reviews to other submission sites.

True, having backlinks will get not only in article submission or content creation but can do to some other SEO task.

Just do not separate the content from backlinks. Actually fresh content will attract more backlinks, and high quality backlinks usally result in more traffic which make you sites to be viewed by more visitors...

Of course, there are many other techniques to get backlinks. you can try these ways:
1) Press release and forum discussion, then put your website to your signature
2) Trading links and buying links.
3) Advertisement in Google or other high quality websites
4) Networking
5) Buying sites or do sourcing sites, then links to your own web.
