The main benefit of the tiny URL is for shortening very long URLs into a shorter, easy to remember URL. However, there are those who are shady enough, using tiny URLs to conceal what is behind the links that they present the readers, such as a link to a site made to hack peoples' online accounts or such.

Less space is the most useful of them, if you are pasting it to the social sites, by attractive heading you can paste the tiny url not letting it know the actual topic of the article.

URL Shortener is important for users on micro-blogging or status update services like on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn's and plurk status features. These updates have a limited number of characters (140 for example in Twitter). A shorter URL allows people to fully express their thoughts.

One I dont see mentioned... a shortened URL is a handy device for masking an affiliate link from view (which is why the shortened URLs are not allowed in V7).

I think the only benefit is to shorten the very long URL's. This tiny URL is a 301 re-directs so the search engines will pick this up. maybe that's the benefit on it.

Like it was said before, is to shorten an url., very useful on social networks. Many people dont trust clicking on a tiny url link, as many spammers use it.

The only benefit of tinyurl is to shorten long urls so they can be passed around easier. It doesnt pass the 'link juice' or whatchummacallit, so if you are aiming for backlinks for seo purposes, dont use tinyurl'ed ones for getting links.

There's a flaw in using tiny url, Some readers might afraid to click on those links and you can lose a lot of traffic.

I don't click on them cause i do not know if the link leads me to a phishing site or a site with a virus on it. That's just my own opinion on masked URL's.
Has anyone even scene a tinyurl indexed well in search engines? I see no SEO benefit in using them.
Someone prove me wrong. lol

Did you read all the posts in this thread before replying? A couple of members posted some ways tinyurl can be used for.
Check out post number 15 in this thread for a prime example of it's use.

Tiny URLs are easier to post on blogs or forums. Make email friendly URLs. Simplify links to your website. Hide an affiliate link.

Also It usually used in twitter to promote a link. Because twitter has a 140 available letter so they make their url shorten by using tiny.url...
