Passing Page Rank to Sub-Domain

Does anyone have any data on how much page rank (if any) passes from a main domain to a sub-domain?

Also, has anyone noticed whether or not a sub-domain can skip a google sand-box if the main domain is already indexed and ranking?

Thanks for any info.

Passing pagerank is a page-specific thing..not domain. So the pr that is passed to a sub-domain is no different that what is passed to a sub directory.

Yes, look at free servers. you can set up a junk site that is something like keyword.freeservers.com and point some links to it, and it'll rank pretty quick.

optycont....I have a website that sells products and each product is setup with it's own unique look/design on a subdomain. This was done after the main domain had been live for about one year. Once we completed the 6 subdomain sites, we went live and after a few months, every subdomain homepage, which is linked directly from the homepage of the main domain, received the exact same PR.....and the numbers were PR 6 main home.....all sub homes also PR 6. Not sure if this answered your question...but thought I would give you a real life scenario.

PR on a subdomain has to account for the same factors as any other website page. Meaning the algorithm calculations are the same as it would be for a subfolder page.

You know, I have see subdomains with the same page rank as the index page, but it's usually a step down 1. I think it really depends on the domain itself. If Google really likes the domain then the subdomain should do well. If it's a relatively new domain or average domain then I have seen the subdomain pages rank well for a while then fall off. I do think you can point links to a subdomain and help the cause!
