link building for new website
hi
for a newly created website which initially has 5 - 10 pages and which would have more pages later on, along with on page seo off page seo is very important for a search engine to find a newly created website
my question is for such a newly created website what are the various way of going about with link building as more number of links pointing to a new website would be good. from what i know this link building can be done by
going to directories and finding the category and have a link to the website, mentioning links from websites of clients, submitting links in industry specific websites, authoritative websites, having a blog on the new website
what are the other best practices that can be adopted for getting lots of links pointing to a newly created website.
please advice.
thanks.

As far as SEO is considered to get the traffic from SE's and you can also build backlinks by submitting articles to top most directories and mainly the articles should be indexed.
Dofollow social bookmarking also gives good backlinks. Bookmarking to the top sites will also gives instant traffic.
Build some links by angela & paul method. But all these should be in continuous process because our competitiors can overtake our keyword positions.
If any more queries feel free to ask and also it would be better if you can share your url.
Any all the best for your success journey in the SEO

I do think, if I needed to start over I'd do some of the following:
Blog comments, forum profile links within niche.
Profile links.
Articles.
Slowly build over time, but I'd worry more about quality of links instead of quantity.

As far as your website to be found* in Google being a new website, try submitting a xml sitemap via google webmaster tools, that is good for getting you indexed.
Also try pinging your site RSS feed in pinging sites like pingomatic, pingler, etc. to get the first indexing started.
Further, social bookmark a few of your internal pages with rotating title/description for each (write at least 3 such sets) and submit to high PR high traffic social bookmark websites to get you indexed, it may also bring in a decent amount of web traffic to your site.
For link building strategies the tips you have mentioned are correct, you can also learn more about link building strategies from the following article from searchengine journal:

Link Building is the process of getting quality Web sites to link to your Web site, in order to improve search engine rankings. First choose keywords for your site, then place keywords as per the quality guidelines then start link building by submitting your site into various directory sites and article submission as much as possible. The selected keyword should be simple and the description must be keyword rich format without stuffing

Off the top of my head:
1. Commenting on contextually relevant blogs which dofollow. The commenter name doesn't have to include keywords. Relevance of surrounding content will still be effective. It adds up and is reader/webmaster friendly. (Some people don't like to see keywords for usernames)
2. Tweeting brings search results
3. Writing to a blog owner/webmaster and requesting a linkback on an internal page or two. Locate similar interests and offer a linkback to them on a relevant page or two as well. If you're a copywriter and a webmaster writes an article about copywriting, ask for placement on that page. Offer the webmaster a link on a page which is not about copywriting, but is about something else the webmaster writes about. This way you get a linkback without building competitor pages. Relevance of surrounding content is still juicing competition indirectly but carries a little less weight.
4. Request homepage link exchange. You get juiced and competition gets juiced but it is the equivalent of advertisement. You both will have different writing techniques and the consumer gets to decide which one it likes best.
5. Locate social communities you are comfortable in and stay put. If you write about shoes and someone else writes about dresses the two can go well together in link exchanges. You can each regularly juice each other in passing, without contributing to competitor strengths and the link doubles as an advertisement.
Organically and with patience, these will show results.

I read somewhere sometime ago about linking as if the search engines didn't exist and I think this still holds true. Get links from all relevant sources such as those already mentioned and you'll be Okay. Also, put a plan in place to do a little link-building weekly or monthly or what ever your schedule allows.
