The best types of links come from relevant web pages. For example, if your website is about web hosting and then a link from a blog comes which is also talking about hosts and Linus servers for example, that link is very valuable in terms of SEO. Based on the niches targeted and the keywords chosen, such links are going to be needed and some leading SEO companies have websites and blogs and then use them to build relevant links for their customers web portals.

A link from a front page site would be the most valuable. For example, if you could link to a front page site for "home business" then you greatly increase your chances. However, I think you would need a one way from a site that already ranks in the top 10 for the targeted term.

However, I would stick with other methods because the above method is very difficult. You have to convince a front page site to link to you. What can you offer them? Plus, Google doesn't like the buying of links.

Backlinks coming from relevant and authority sites contained in the content of an article relevant to the page on your site that it is linked to. Also make sure that this relevant high PR site doesn't give out many links.

For me the backlinks that is considered powerful are links that are on the main page of an authority website. For example, if you will get a one way backlink on Google.com then that will give your site a big boost not only on Page Rank but also in SERPs and traffic. In my opinion the best methods to get traffic are forum posting, subscribe to social media sites, directory submission and article writing.
Of course the content of your site has to be unique and relevant, otherwise any method you choose will give minimal results and/or for only a short time.

backlink from nice PR blog, as part of their blogroll. treat every blog that u like as ur real friend. if they thing you're their friend too, they will put ur blog link on their blog. and it really worth, imho
