MSN dropped me, now Yahoo loves me! What gives?

I was #8 for a VERY popular keyword, now I am #36 on MSN, but now I am #7 on Yahoo, and Google dropped me from 655 pages cached to 123... Anyone else seeing anything weird going on? Only thing I changed was my Title tag, so that might of been it, but I didnt change it enough, I didnt think, to get hit that hard on MSN...

Did you change it from a exact keyword to something else?

I changed it from a 3 word keyphrase, which coincidentally is the same as the URL, to a "2wordphrase - 2 wordphrase - 2wordphrase"

The first 2 word phrase is the first 2 keywords of my original Title.

For Example it was:

Title: Dark blue widgets
Url: www.darkbluewidgets.com

Changed to

Blue Widgets - Red Widgets - Green Widgets
URL: www.darkbluewidgets.com

Like I said Yahoo loved it, which is better since they get so much more traffic than MSN, but I wouldnt think it would of made that big of a difference and should of helped on the other keywords.

I take the Kword you were #7 for in MSN was "Blue Widgets." In my experience, I have found that Yahoo's algo is super sensitive to the relationship between titles and URL's and they tend to tolerate a little more KW stuffing in their titles and give you a boost from repeating. I would guess that your Yahoo ranks for blue widgets may have jumped up about 10 to 15 positions. I am curious to hear what the change garnered you for Red and Green Widgets? I would guess page 2 to 4.

It looks like MSN's algo is getting more sophisticated. To me it looks like they don't credit Keyphrase stuffing in the titles and the fact that Green and Red were added to the mix dilluted the focus of your titles and the relationship between your URL. But hey Yahoo has more traffic. Are red and green worth their own page? If you want MSN back I would recommend one - one way in-bound link that reads(even from a low PR site) that reads "blue widgets" and they'll bump you to the top 3.

But... it's a crazy market

I am probably going to redo the site and refocus some energies on it, but I was ranked for 'dark blue widgets', 'blue widgets', 'dark widgets', 'widgets that are blue' etc... I had a lot of them... I am probably going to change it up as I noticed to break the top five or so on MSN requires a KW density of about 5%, from my experience. Mine is 30% due to my AHREF tags, URL, and the fact that the keyword is the name of the business, AND a major keyword.

Though I would rather pick up Yahoo than MSN. But having both is even better.
