Inktomi Slurp: Too much Bandwidth
Inktomi Slurp has used up 1 GB of my Bandwidth this month. Bandwidth is epensive for Windows hosting. Is this bot worth keeping or should I ban it or restric it?

Who does Inktomi Slurp spider for?

I am experiencing a bunch of bw use from them, but I'm nowhere near max capacity so I'm cool with it.

If it is from Yahoo!, it is obviously worth keeping.

Just have to pay $7 per GB over te 25GB limit.

I can afford it but still annoying considering last month Inktomi Slurp used less than 60MB...Google is only using 200MB. I did add a few 1000 pages 4 days ago though I am not sure if this was before or after this hit.

Mine is a UK site so I dont care about Yahoo but it does power others like Ask Jeeves but traffic is very low from them anyway.

No, Ask Jeeves uses its own index, called Teoma. Yahoo! is the 2nd largest search engine.

I too have been visited by the Inktomi bot - over 200 times yesterday. It seems strange that yahoo spider my site far, far more often that the other SEs, but with unlimited bandwith I guess I will just accept it and be happy.
