UTN Toolbar

Well, I posted at UTN forums that I was working on one, and the feedback was good. So now we have one! Now being version 1, there are still lots of features that will be added soon, so keep watching.

Anyway, I originally had PageRank installed, but I'm waiting for approval (if!) from Google on that before I add it to the live version. I also was going to add Alexa, but I figured that should not be bundled in due to the privacy issues assciated with it.

So..What does it do?

• Eliminate Pop-Up Ads

• Search From Any Website Using:
- Uncover the Net
- Google
- Yahoo
- MSN
- Ask Jeeves

• Check Backlinks for Any Website Using:
- Google
- Yahoo
- MSN

Coming Soon:

- FireFox Toolbar
- AutoFill Forms (IE only)
- Anti-Ads Feature (IE only)
- RSS Reader (IE only)

Download link : http://toolbar.uncoverthenet.com/

There's no spyware, adware etc. So let me know what you think! And if there are features that you would like to see implemented, let me know, maybe we can incorporate them!

There's a small error with the backlinks checker. So I'm at a site for example http://www.whatifind.com/ I'll check the backlinks for lets say google. It show the back links, now I pull down the menu and check for yahoo, it's checking the site: link:http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=lin...ifind.com%252F and now I want to check MSN it's getting even worse: link:http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q...ind.com%25252FI think there's someting wrong.

What it does is query the current url, so for instance if I go to yahoo.com and select the backlinks that Google provides it would go to: http://www.google.com/search?q=link:...w.yahoo.com%2F , and now if I want to check MSN for the same thing, I would first hit the back button (cause it checks the current URI), then select MSN which would lead to: http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q...w.yahoo.com%2F

Whats happening now, is you're checking the backlinks of the search command on the search engine instead of the actual site. So in other words, you must be the page you want to check to get valid results.

We could script it so that it remembered the url so this wouldnt happen, but then cookies would be involved and we wanted to stay away from any potential privacy concerns like cookies.

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for your note. It is against Google's Terms of Service to show
PageRank data on a third-party site or toolbar. Also, we can only
guarantee the authenticity of PageRank that comes directly from the Google
Toolbar or Google Directory.

Regards,
The Google Team

Makes sense though.

or that it is rightfully outdated and perhaps wrong.
