Question Question about link text

I've been working recently on getting incoming text links, and according to things like Aaron's SEO Book, the actual text of the incoming link can be important. But I'm wondering how exactly search engines interpret the link text. For example, I've been using "RAM Memory Upgrades" recently as my link text. But do SE's only give me credit for "RAM Memory Upgrades" exactly, so that someone would have to type in that term for me to rank well, or would it also give me credit for "RAM", "RAM Memory" and "Memory Upgrades"? If anyone could shed some light on how this works it would be much appreciated, I'd hate to be wasting all this effort getting ranked well on a sub-par keyterm. Thanks!

IMO the search term "RAM memory upgrades" should give credit for RAM and memory and upgrades.

Yes you’re both correct... but "RAM Memory Upgrades" is achievable

Thanks for the tip! That article about the backlinks was very interesting, I'll start taking that into account. Much appreciated.

Hi,

Yes, you will get credit for any search query containing the words RAM, Memory, and Upgrades and the most credit for "RAM Memory upgrades".
