Does Link Building Still Work?

This is a good article to read before you reply to the thread title. (Catchy title ya think?)

Quote:
A few years ago link building was the rave of the day and probably the single most used and abused SEO strategy – people were swapping links, buying links, selling links, and breathing links.

And for good reason – the majority of the search engines tended to award the websites that had most backlinks, no matter how these links were obtained.

Of course, this led to the development of many shady link building techniques and when irrelevant sites were always holding the top positions on the search engines, the teams that were running these search engines knew that it was time to change and improve their algorithms.

What is the situation right now? Does link building still work?

There is more on the blog so please click on this link --> source: Links Alone are Not Enough

Thoughts on this anyone?

Very good title caught my attention quickly. I really like the points in the article and think that without great content building links is pretty much pointless. I also agree that age has a big impact with the search results and backlinks my older sites do much better than the new ones I have put together. Anyway good find.

Of course it still works. The thing that changes is how the search engines see those links, ie, what they think are valuable links and what they see as spam. For example a year ago social bookmarking was fine, now its been saturated by spam, the search engines virtually ignore those links, and the big bookmarking sites like Digg have gone nofollow.

Link building works like Social bookmarking and social media strategies, they work for direct traffic that sometimes leads to a real backlinks somewhere down the line.

Yes, link building is still a necessity in order for a website to rank well in the search engines. The way different links are valued has changed but you still need to have backlinks to typically do well in the search engines.

Just means you have to separate the boys from the men when it comes to link building. Some will get low quality, spam links, while others will find a way to add value to websites, articles, blogs, press releases while gaining in the SERPS with ultra relevant information for the end user.

Link Building is part of SEO, and it is still working as a part of internet marketing strategy. Google might have done some tweaks with their system, specifically about how it weighs a certain link type, but still quality links remained as one of the biggest factors in getting favorable results.

I agree with the article author, link building is differently rewarded by search engines.

It is not a matter of quantity anymore but rather quality and trusted links.

So basically it is a waste of time to find tons of backlinks if there are not quality and trusted, they will be not taken into consideration by search engines.

In my experience, I will say that right now you have to find the right formula, unique quality contents for your visitors will provide the main core of your SEO and trusted links will help to rank you.

Of course, link building still works. I started a new website about two weeks ago and all I did was build backlinks and it is now in the top 120 results out of 3,000,000. Link building still works very well.

Although; I see backlinking being a dead sport within the next couple of years. I don't know how Google or other SEs will filter out what is a link placed by someone working on SEO for their site and what is a link posted by the site itself, but I'm sure they will. I feel as though within the next couple of years the only links that will mean anything to search engines are the ones posted by the sites themselves. It will be all about renting or buying permanent links.

Well, link building helps to rank the page but it's not necessary that poor content has a poor link it also bit depends upon the way we implement it, so poor content is not a reason for low page rank and low traffic.

link exchange like stars is most useful?
Links to social networks, submit blog, forum, directory, articles .... generally accepted free totally. it is good that you can do.
it differs from the exchange link: put your link on the same page as priority areas.

Ref : Does Link Building Still Work?

Partha

Hi friend,

Having a set of links on your pages that provide helpful and useful information to your visitors isn't a bad thing in itself.* A resource like that should be aimed at helping your visitors rather than for purposes of inflating your rankings and the rankings of others in search engines.*

Thanks,

For the record, it must be understood that there is but a single and quantitative measure of the value of a link - the PR that it passes.

There is no other measure considered in the PR algorithm.
