Are Meta Keywords Useful?

I want my website to be found in google and other search engines, but I heard that search engines ignore meta keywords. Should I put meta keywords and do they help at all?

Meta keywords are completely useless nowadays, to the point where you don't even need to include them at all.

I beg to differ.

Google said they don't use the meta keywords tag for search:

Recently we received some questions about how Google uses (or more accurately, doesn't use) the "keywords" meta tag in ranking web search results. Suppose you have two website owners, Alice and Bob. Alice runs a company called AliceCo and Bob runs BobCo. One day while looking at Bob's site, Alice notices that Bob has copied some of the words that she uses in her "keywords" meta tag. Even more interesting, Bob has added the words "AliceCo" to his "keywords" meta tag. Should Alice be concerned?

At least for Google's web search results currently (September 2009), the answer is no. Google doesn't use the "keywords" meta tag in our web search ranking. This video explains more, or see the questions below.
Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

However that does not mean that the "other" search bots do not look at the meta keywords tag.

There are other search engines and directories that use the keyword meta tag. For example, Yahoo! uses it:

Quote:
“Use a “keyword” meta-tag to list key words for the document. Use a distinct list of keywords that relate to the specific page on your site instead of using one broad set of keywords for every page.”
How do I improve the ranking of my web site in the search results? at Yahoo!

There are software applications that also use the keywords meta tag. e.g. Site search software

For the couple of minutes that it takes to add them...I would and I do....(right now for the other bots)

Not long ago Google said "no meta tags" then that changed...

If you end up building big over time and they change back to key metas....think of the work to add them...to many sites and many pages...

If you use or don't use it does not matter but if you work on backlinks then matters.

Sorry, don't understand how the meta keywords tag is related to backlinks. Could you please explain what you mean?

Why would you advise someone to put misspelled keywords in their meta keywords tag?

Those bots that do look at this tag also check that your content also has these words.

You are advising something that caused Google to ignore this tag.

Simply if you put the meta keywords it wont do anything bad to your website. Google will not count or read them for ranking.

Second part of your question: there are few search engines that still uses meta keywords. If you put meta keywords there is no harm, so you should add them.

I believe the Meta Keywords tag can be useful for optimizing your site both for external and internal search. This tag can provide search engines with useful information about the content of your web page.

I'm pretty sure Yahoo goes right off of Bing now. It will show up in Yahoo, but it will give Bing results. Yahoo and Microsoft got together to take down Google.

In my personal opinion, I think Bing is better than Google. Just my opinion though.

I think you are getting off topic mate..But for your opinion, I don't think Yahoo and Bing could take down Google even if they combine..Google will still at the top for search engines..

As for the thread, I think Yahoo gives more value to metas than Google do..

Yes, you should do it again, although the search engine declare that the meta keywords have little useful, but it also could add the density of keyword.
