I ran across a terrific link building guide from SEO Moz today. It covers the directory maintains links with the theft of their competitors, even though the competition for links. As I ran through the article, I remembered that a reassessment of old technologies often brings results. I've linked to your search from the list below, and a moment later he found a great site you link to high PR! I'm going to do some research for a link this week.

Could you share the link with us? Some of us would like to read the whole thing and perhaps post a blog comment.

YouTube link juice of course... Google owns YouTube so they kinda favor the link. youTube has an awesome search feature and ranks the video on several factors. A few being the Title, Meta Tags and Description, just like a web site.

If you put together a video campaign and after a while have many good quality videos with a lot of viewers, likes, comments and linked to your site you get a high PR to your site. Takes a little time but effective.

A bonus is the videos are the way the online future is communicating.

and having video on your site could keep viewers on page longer so increase page view times and reduce bounce rate.

How is having users watching a video going to induce them to view more pages? Increased time-on-page alone is of no value.

And, if they linger too long on your video page, their visit may be counted as a bounce even if they do eventually jump to another on-site page.

To be useful, the video must contain just enough to make the visitor want more information, information that can only be had by his moving on to another page.

Too little, and he's not hooked. Too long, and he either gets bored or decides that he's seen enough to know that he doesn't want to know more.

It's all such a delicate balance.

Build Affiliate Resource Site To Niche

I've seen other people suggest this - but I think it is the best idea out there.

The hardest links to build are for e-commerce and wholesaler/manufacturer sites. These site do not generate buzz and link building strategies are very prone to being borderline spam/black hat or the usual directory link building.

However, every niche or topic has related informational resources on it such as Yahoo! answers, or any list of results. I frequently see Yahoo answers rank high on Google.

My example and strategy would be this. Say you are working for a home improvement specialist simply start a website with articles on home improvement, which has buzz and legitimate content, link bait and do all of the tactics and then you can get links from that site which you control.

Depending on how competitive the market is and how much your client is paying you (or if managed by webmaster himself how much effort you want to put in), would be the number of these sites that you would make.

Obviously host these sites on different IP Addresses and mix in regular directory link building / the usual SEO tactics.

In essence, these days it is easy or within reach to create well-designed, decent content on any subject and essentially project to a search robot that you are 100 people when you are really only one.

The trick with SEO is to imagine that you are 1000 different people and therefore you can build 1000 different editorial links.

Guest Blogging

Place 100% original posts on blogs similar to yours. Usually you can have one or two links in the author profile, vary the anchor text often. Some will accept anchor text in the post if it is relevant to the post.

It used to be very time consuming to find then contact blogs to guest post on. While I will still search and contact to find and target, by going to My Blog Guest http://myblogguest.com I get fast results to find people looking for posts and people willing to put 100% original content on my sites.

Part of the understood agreement in guest posting is an original post which will not be put elsewhere after.

I have gotten some of my clients on Technorati, ReelSEO, SiteProNews and other PR 6+ blogs and they are getting solid results over time. Direct traffic does show in analytics too.

This is not at all like a content farm because all the sites I place to are quality blogs where someone is involved in developing their blog, and there is no set pattern.

Topical relevance is more important than PR but most blogs at My Blog Guest are PR ranked and often I get PR2-4 there.

The posts are written more toward being interesting to readers than using SEO keywords. If I can get the readers to comment my posts I can go back and get as many as several links from one post.

It seems you are right, deep, however, I would still prefer distinct IPs wherever practical. There *may* not be an SEO reason, today, but it does establish some relationship underlying any linking - and a distinct IP means you aren't ever associated with anyone you haven't chosen. Might be a hangover of mine from the late 90s, and I certainly don't have all my sites on distinct IPs, but it can't hurt.

How to Train a Link Builder

I thought this blog post is useful to everyone and sharing it in this sticky thread.

Quote:
Training someone who doesn't know anything about SEO to link build can be very challenging even for someone who is quite advanced in the industry. You have to know how to dumb things down, while still giving adequate information. You also need to make sure you don't overwhelm the person you are training. I've taken several approaches to this in the past and I wanted to go through a step-by-step of what works for me.

Again I'm going to assume the person you're training doesn't know anything about SEO.

First things first!

1) Tool and Software Setup

This will vary greatly depending on the type of link building they're going to...

5 Unorthodox Tangible Link Building Strategies

The stuff mentioned in this blog post below might actually be "new" news to you. If you would like to comment on the blog post, post a blog comment or create a fresh thread on V7N.

Quote:
Let’s face it, if you’ve read as many link building posts as I have, you’re getting pretty sick of ‘em. They all say the same things, and half of them don’t even apply to you, such as viral link building. Honestly, if your blog had the exposure to start building links virally just as easily as the posts say, chances are you wouldn’t be spending your time reading those posts on that half-mediocre SEO blog. So, for the rest of you who struggle with link building, wanting not to hear the same crap over & over again, this is for you (note: I’m saving my best for last).

Just wrote an ebook on this actually! One thing people don't seem to jump on is testimonials. Every time someone asks me to write a testimonial I'll go for it (and ask for a link of course), also if you see any of your suppliers with partners listed on their pages ask them how to become a partner, often it's just a case of asking.

Building your own network is another way, monitor dropday.com or similar to find higher PR domains and set up little WordPress blogs on them and gradually build up their authority (this is something I do - for very keen players only!).

One good way of getting backlinks these days is tumblr. I am surprised that nobody mentioned it in this thread. It is somewhat a greyhat method, but it will work wonders when constant and not abused.
When registering a tumblr account you have the option to register an external URL. So what you have to do is register the account, using your targeted query as username with dashes(my-query-google), and insert your website as an external tumblr url.
Now go to any tumblr blog and like or reblog any post. This will give you a nofollow link for the like and a dofollow link for reblog on the original post. Try choosing the highest PR tumblr blogs for maximum efficiency.
I am doing this for several websites and after a few days of constant reblogging and likes I started improving my google rankings.
I hope this helps you too! Good Luck!

Tumblr is a scheme intended to manipulate PageRank, and is certain to be defeated by Google, if it's not already done so.

TANSTAAFL.
