Why does ranking on all the majors matter? My clients pay me to bring them leads and sales. Rankings are simply a means to that end. If I spent my time getting clients ranked for search engines that have no traffic, I would probably lose clients.
Also - one just never knows when AOL or MSN or ASK may bring in a Significant Sale - and of course, if someone is an innocent victim of a Google DECLINE - you'd be suprise how valuable those Other Search Engines suddenly become
I agree but it can look very good to advertising agencies who want to buy ad space... and you never know what search engine can take off (Successes of a SE depends on how they improve adult images search IMO )
Oh, by no means was I claiming that other search engines don't matter. I just question the wisdom of tageting *all* of them.
There are limited hours in the day. If your SEO efforts are for financial gain, rather than ego, you'll almost always be better served by concentrating on the ones that matter.
Keep an eye on the rest to see when a search engine becomes important (we're long overdue for a new search engine to do so). You can do that by keeping an eye on this place, however.
I target the 3 major SEs. Google being the top priority. It is always good to show in more than one SE so that if you drop suddenly in one you will still have traffic from the others.
