More site pages = decreased rankings?

I am not sure where, but I recently read that if you add new pages to your website but not add new inbound links, your overall ranking will decrease in Google (and any other engine that considers IBL important).

If this is the case, I wonder how many new links (of a certain value) you need for every new page.

Is this true - what have others found?

adding new pages to the website is good because you are providing information which will be updated by google to present that results when some one search for that, means google always welcome good information pages but if you don't link that page to the web inner pages then the possibilities are there that your website ranking would decrease bcoz that page would count as a separate/ broken page/apart page on that particular website.

Your heading More site pages = decreased rankings? is wrong/false/Not True..

Hope this would be clear from my above explanation...

Wrong! The more pages the less your pages will rank. However in the long run when you have more pages more people will link to you thus your ranking will be very powerful like the BBC. A link on the BBC may have only PR1 but it can easily beat PR6’s easily because it has a higher base PR (Homepage/Site PR).

PR is not just page specific as many SEO people think. Its simple mostly site specific... the more page the less you rank, but the more pages you have the better you will rank in the future.

from personal experience.........adding new pages to your existing website does not decrease the overall ranking of your website........proper internal linking is very important for new pages...........it took me approx 2 weeks for the new pages to rank well in SE.....even with pr 0........IMO the trick lies in proper internal linking.

If you have a 10 page website try adding 100 links. Check the ranking and yes the pages will not fall! HOWEVER then check the ranking of 10 pages after the page rank re-calculation often happens every 3 months or so (not the Google toolbar update). As long as the words are reasonably competitive and you have a reasonable amount of ip's pointing to your site you will see a big fall in your ranking of the 10 pages.
