Is it ok to have more than 10 keywords on a site? and will this effect anything?

If I am not wrong, Google has strictest requirements when it comes to keywords density. No more than 2% of a web page's words should be the targeted keywords, anything more than that will be considered spamming. While in case of Yahoo and MSN they have a higher keyword density of around 5% of the total words.

It's because of keywords that people discover a website through searches for information. It's important that a site provides as many opportunities to be included in those search results as possible. With the proper density of the keywords on a page, and maximizing their effectiveness, a site can take full advantage and improve it's ranking and traffic.

First off. Keyword density issues don't really exist on Google. They do a little on Yahoo.

You can safely go for 2-3 keywords per page.

Just get loads of content, my site, this first 6 days of the month, has been found by 569 different keyphrases and 932 different keywords, the #1 keyword counted 939 hits, all in those few days, and this never stops and only gets more and more traffic.

Build content.

Depends on how hard you work on those keywords. In theory you don't even need to have the keywords on your site, as long as you build enough links with the keyword in the anchor text.

try and find the keywords on the first results when you do a search for 'miserable failure', you'll see what I mean.

The more keywords you have , the more work you'll have to do. I'm talking about building links to your site targeting all your keywords.

A small site targeting 10 kw's is not uncommon. You should try targeting a couple of similar kw's per individual page rather than targeting all 10 kw's on the home page.

Get external deep links to the individual pages, use a concise title and description, make sure you use related anchor text internally also.

On page kw density is not a problem unless it's done to excess. Avoid overuse of your kw's in meta tags and alt text.

Tip: Include a couple of the most common misspellings for your primary kw in your meta keywords tag. You just might get some unexpected but welcome traffic from one of the major search engines.
