Will it do any good to create a word doc in google doc then create anchor text linking back to my site?

I don't think your document will be publicly visible so it will probably not help SEO.

However, it may help encourage people reading the document to visit your website for more info. And that should be a good thing.

I don't think google docs contribute to backlink, because google doesn't know whether the doc belongs to other webmasters or yourself.

you have to be logged and shared your docs online in order to view it.. so i don't think its gonna work..

I am not sure that the previous suggestions are correct. The arguement that google docs does not demonstrate that the publisher is a web master does not seem valid to me as there are many valid back links that come from people who are not web masters, such as forum posts and articles.

Also, it is widely understood that backlinks from within PDF documents count.

My suggestion is give it a go and see what happens.

However, I would agree that your document needs to be public and not private.

I think it will never be counted, cause search engines algorithm excludes Google docs even if it is public.
